I chose the Manual. The auto wasnt available at the time, but would have gone manual regardless. That said, I have driven the Auto and it is very impressive.

Manual, so the wife can't drive it She can only drive an auto and though I have tried to teach her to drive a manual she'd rather not bother. Personally though I prefer being able to control the car better through a manual gearbox than an auto.

Auto. Wanted manual, but got outvoted by the wife (which I suppose is reasonable as the car is for her).

Auto. I guess I'm not really a car person I've always been into automation - At work (computers) I'll script anything that makes my job easier. I just dont see the point of doing extra things manually!

Which was ironic because we were at a bus stop at the time.

Also lazy. Ditto about scripting. I spend a lot of time trying to simplify things - even though it often ends up being a brain strain to work out how to simplify it in the first place.

Manual. I like to drive my cars, not be driven. I feel the same way. No one in my family drives an auto. I will even (embarrassingly) admit that when I drove my first auto, a hire car, I had to ask my dad how to drive it

I chose auto! While I know how to drive a manual in theory.. practice doesn't quite keep up. I also just like to be able to plant my foot on the brake if I have to stop suddenly without thinking what else I need to do.

Manuals outsell autos by far here in the UK and yet it appears that our antipodean opposites much prefer the autos. Yanks like autos too so maybe it's a 'distance' thing only I'd think the auto advantage would be more in urban areas. With the UK population density far higher than either you'd think we'd go for the autos more.

I think the % of Aussies who opted for the manual i30 is much higher than this particular thread would indicate. Traditionally Aussies go for Autos in 6cyl and V8's less so in 4 cylinder smaller cars... The Auto seemed to be very lightly represented in the first 6 months or so the site was going but has increased a bit in more recent times (for some strange reason?)
