How do I view Asian characters that appear in some posts?

If you are running a Windows-based machine, it is highly likely that you already have the correct language packs installed; however, there may be some that display as square blocks or vertical lines.

The following sequence should load the missing character sets:

(1) Click Start, then Control Panel, then click "Regional & Language Options"

If you are using category view you can still select this feature...

You will then see a screen like this:

Click the <languages> tab to reveal...

Put a tick in the "Install files for East Asian languages" box thus:

Click Apply, then follow any instructions that may appear, which might include inserting your windows disk.

Windows Vista (and its variants) will look slightly different but the general idea is the same.
