HI!
 Smiley

I've got he beta of Windows 7. It really runs well for a beta! Better than Vista!
Overall, it's all the same but there are a few nice addons and changes. It's faster than Vista e.g. booting, programs, internet ...

Nice.

Does your beta have the "XP compatibility mode" feature? That would be handy

Hi Nick..

Don't like Vista (so I might just for XP to Windows 7 by the sound of it )  icon_razz

P.S. How's the new job going (and the new Girlfriend.. hope she's not going  icon_lol)

I'm using XP to, and if everything stay the way it is, I'll go for Windows 7. You can get the beta free on microsoft. The beta runs to june 2010. So one year if you get it now. It has all the features of Vista and the speed of XP.  Smiley

And the job is going great, lots of fun Wink and the GF is gone. I'm single now ... Oh well, we're still friends. more than friends sometimes ... but hey, I'm happy. That's all what matters Wink

Nice.

To Bad it hasn't, it sure would be handy  icon_wink but I haven't got any problems so far. Only thing is that I can not use my EyeToy camera. Wich isn't ab big of a deal Smiley

lol, pst, i think you mean the release candidate. but yeah, i've been using windows 7 for a while and it was alot better in the earlier betas 7048 and 7057 than the release candidate..yes its better than vista now...but previously it was ALOT faster.

there are like minimal compatibility issues and most drivers are already included *shock horror*  Tongue

and aww...sucks about the gf though nick =(

ahah yeah. 7100. are you using the 64 or 32 bit version? i decided to take the leap to 64 and it seems to be faster now. win 7 is so convenient and user friendly!

some proggies that i had problems with were tuneup utils (NOOOOOO!!!) and finding an independent firewall/antivirus that works with windows 7. ended up dling AVG which works perfectly with windows 7 so yeah..everything else, you can just troubleshoot compatibility and itll install easily =D

its good though that ur going out more and havin fun (like come on...who doesnt want to? =D) and you will find a new girl someday..or you mite find the old one again  Tongue

 icon_eek B***er that for a joke..

I'd have to use my off peak time and download allowance (midnight to 7am) if I want to download that big a file .. and would take all night at 1500 kbps... Cry

So it's free then and they don't have to validate your existing XP ?  icon_wink

It is free, yes, but as mentioned it expires in 13 months. It has to be a clean install though.. it doesn't validate anything you currently have (I installed as a dual boot so I could keep my XP)

They give you a key when you apply to download it.

I grabbed both 32 and 64 bit versions and am running the 32 bit in a virtual machine just to play with it as I've already got a quad-boot system atm with Vista,XP and two flavours of linux and cbf'd adding another one in.

It looks good but it runs a tad slow in the virtual machine.

Presumably you went to www.software4students or one of the other affilliates.

Not a bad price, they usually do a good deal on office 2007 enterprise too, is you have a child  (or know someone who does?) biggrin

Spot on on all counts.

Parents and even grandparents (I'm both  Embarrassed) can apply for a single licence. Decided it was about time to go [part-]legit and will be able to make use of the other 32 bits in my system icon_lol

Just don't be tempted to use the 64bit IE, as their is no compatible 64bit Flash version yet. 32bit version runs just fine, and is installed alongside the 64 bit version.

Cheers Lorian. When I "sampled" 64-bit Vista Ultimate I noticed there were two explorer versions on the program list.

However, I shall keep my faith in Firefox, which moves to version 3.6 next week.

I got myself a new laptop for Christmas and I got it cheap because it had vista on it (with a free - postage and handling only cost to upgrade to the equivilent 32bit Home Premium Windows 7 OS)

Have done the upgrade, had lots of minor issues with it to start with now the only problem seems to be shutdown.. Looks like explorer is staying open and even a forced shutdown won't kill it. I can just hold the power key down for a few seconds when it hangs but then I get the safe mode option when I next start up  icon_rolleyes

I have XP pro on all my other PCs and no probs with that and with a Core Duo processor and 4GB of ram this little laptop was going really well on Vista as well...

First question to diagnose the issue, is have you run windows update and and applied all the latest patches so far?

Firstly I agree with Lorian.  Also, did you get the Windows 7 upgrade from your laptop manufacturer and if so was it in the form of a recovery disc that they put together?  If so check with them, as they may have a driver issue with some of the hardware on there laptops.  Also you can have a look in the Device Manager to make sure you have no yellow exclamation marks.

I think it's somthing to do with Internet explorer 8 but can't put my finger on it....Have tried firefox on my other laptops b4 and found that a bit flaky at times too....
