I am currently watching a programme on Channel 4 about why we have had this weather and the presenter is in Scotland's Cairngorm Mountains.  This area regularly gets -20C and lower but is usually accompanied by up to 100mph winds and according to the programme the windchill with those numbers is equivalent to -70C.

Sounds like I could fall in love with Scotland  biggrin biggrin, must visit it some day. I don't quite buy that -70C, the presenter must have exaggerated a bit. You can calculate the windchill, see http://www.nws.noaa.gov/om/windchill/

I'm looking at +2c and one inch of snow. Great to wake up to. Not great to drive in.

oh you know - a bit of wind, a bit of rain, nothing much really.
last few days has been something generic like
"TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST
SEVERE WEATHER WARNING
for Flash Flooding and Damaging Wind Gusts"

Ex-tropical cyclone Olga has been a little pesky causing road closures, uprooting trees, causing a wee flood in my lounge room, a mud slide in my garage, and banging a few things about, and ripping branches off my lovely jacaranda tree, but she's been pretty tame all things considered. i did get to wash my car, and get lots of rinses!

where Olga was 2 days ago when she started affecting my area.

Yeppon / Rockhampton - the town above me - being hit by King Tides. and also having road closures etc

Main Highways further north completely cut off, bit pesky for our transport industry

Gladstone - my local town where i went today for app't etc - being beaten up by exTC Olga. bad tides plays havoc with the port and transport industry and coal industry there to.

the billion dollar coal industry gets affected, train derailed 'apparently' due to the weather north west of rockhampton this morning

this was a tame cyclone.

Got 15 cm (6") of snow last night. Due to the fact that I have 300 m2 of yard and driveway, it translates to 45 m3 of snow to shovel off - just did that.

Current temperature is -5C and going down again...

First photo is from the beach "Östra Stranden" in Halmstad (you can see the dunes in the background).
Second photo is near "Hagöns Camping" Halmstad...
We have three long beaches around Halmstad, "Östra Stranden", "Västra Stranden" and the most famous beach in Sweden "Tylösand".

Crispy winter  biggrin holiday biggrin morning today - sunny skies, -22°C added with frrheeeezing wind. At my place, the tempereatures have stayed below 0°C since december the 12th.

I'm lucky to live in the warmer part of the country, some had it drop down to -41.3°C last night.

Expecting a snowstorm to arrive for the night.
