Can you now (both) <right click> properties on this smiley (presumably you dont see it properly still) What's the address for that? Also, when you start up the forum, what URL do you use?

I see all smilies fine and dandy. The problem [most] folk are seeing [I guess] is selecting them from the posting window To answer your question... And to answer your second question... http://www.i30ownersclub.com/forum/index.phpShall we call you Sherlock?

Shall we call you Sherlock? "Eliminate the impossible, and what ever is left, however improbable must be the truth" - pretty good priciple there. We need to see the address from someone where it doesn't work.

It doesn't work for me. Right Here. Right now. Visualising emoticons isn't the problem, nor is posting them, if you use the bbcode to do it, as I do

If we look at part of the page source, there are still references to the fyvie domain, most noteably in the javascript stuff, I highlighted a few (its tricky to highlight in the code). Either the paths needs changing in the forum software/database, or the domain A record needs re-instating. This will effect the javascript for adding icons, and I can see it's wrong on the spell checker path too, further down in the code, not shown due to exceeding max message length. I presume it works someplaces because the A record has persisted presumably as a result of a high TTL on the domain. Having had a little dig, the A record seems to have been removed completely for i30ownersclub.fyvie.org. Eventually this will propagate around everyone's DNS (I can't see the value for the TTL for this time as it's left my local DNS servers). Then it won't work for anyone (workaround aside).

Start new topic

var current_header = false; function shrinkHeader(mode) { smf_setThemeOption("collapse_header", mode ? 1 : 0, null, "5c3b3eb0477c99e504c0db94965b22f7"); document.getElementById("upshrink").src = smf_images_url + (mode ? Ok. I'm suspending this thread temporarily until our domain guy has had a look. He's already acknowledged that there's work to do and both he, and i30Dave, have other pressing commitments at the mo, so the resolution might take a while. Thanks to all for their input, especially Lorian, but we now need to let the admin do their work. They are aware that there's a problem so let's just hang fire. Grab a beer and get on YouTube...

Lorian gets it, can someone hand him the keys?
No point in everyone testing smileys from different browsers etc, as I said in my last post, there a references to a URL that no longer exists in the forum's config, hence the problem.
The i30ownersclub.fyvie.org was a temporary domain that I set up ages ago as a test site for the forum before upgrades and relocation work got done on it. Clearly, after the forum moved to its own domain, parts of it were still looking at the temp domain. These references need to be properly taken out. As I mentioned in my last post and as Lorian has also pointed out, you can clearly see this in the source and yes, it is the javascript that calls the smileys and the spell checker - hence you can see them, but not select them.
A short while ago, I cleaned out much of the old temp DNS records I had made (including the fyvie.org ones) which then manifested this problem. As Lorian points out, there are only 2 ways to fix it: 1. Correct A Records in the DNS; 2. Fix the code to properly point to the right location. Option 1 is something in my control and I could add such records to redirect, but this is only a dodgy band aid, the real solution would be option 2.
I volunteered my services some time ago to get the site running under my own hosting (for free) and have also volunteered a bunch of time and effort to get various parts working, but I won't just wade in and fix stuff on my own. There needs to be a quorum and if they want me to help, I will, but other people also need to pitch in.
Who has the skills and a few hours to spare on this? The other admins need to consult and find a better long term solution. I'd be happy to help with this as well, but not in the dark. I've already given an FTP account for this a while back and others also have admin access, so if there is a problem using this, please let me know.
Sorry if this is too techy and too public, but it was the quickest way to get the message out. I too am a bit time poor and don't drop in here too often these days.
