Hi friends,

I am driving a i30cw for 5 years. Recently one of the LED (among the row of LED) in the 3rd brake light does not light up. It does not look nice and it seemed it looses a tooth.

Anyone can advice how I can get to open up the cover on the inner side of the hatch door leading to the 3rd brake lights, so as to check the connection?

My user manual does not show how to do it.

regards,

tede

The LED's will be on a circuit board and not individual. Unless you can repair circuit boards (which you might be able to) you might be out of luck.

Not really. There's so many designs I can't remember.

IIRC you just pull the trim off on the inside of the boot near the top, which exposes three nuts that you can loosen to pull the LED board out

Hi Wabbit16,

Is it by brut force pulling out the covers? I am worried that I may break the connection and I cannot fix it back.

The plastic cover is a long ~80cm and cannot find a location to pry open.

Anyone has any manual to show how to remove? Or have removed it before?

regards,
tede

"looks like it looses a tooth", same me. I can't fix PCB, so I don't intend to open it.

The trim is to be removed by force, please be careful. Otherwise the connections "could be" broken.
Perhaps you'll need this to prevent damaging the trim.

Hi Tede

Somewhere on this forum I found a guide on how to remove it but I cannot seem to find it now.

What I did was open the tailgate all the way, and I hooked my fingers above between the glass and the trim section I wanted to pull out, and with some downward force it eventually unclipped. I did have to tug quite hard but it eventually gave way. I didn't need to use a tool to pry it off, fortunately.

Just be careful and go slowly so as not to break the trim cover off. After you remove it you should see three 10mm nuts holding the light in place. Remove these, and then prise the light away a bit until you can see the clear pipe for the rear window washer. Also remove this - it goes in at an angle IIRC but pulls off with a moderate amount of force. There isn't much room to work with though so just go slow and take your time

Good luck :goodjob2:

I looked in the manual, but it described something completely different, so didn't publish it.

Yet it was called Removal of 3rd High mount Brake light.   :Dunno:

Hi Tede,

I'll see if I can snap some pictures tonight when I get home from work, maybe I'll take a video as well if the rain doesn't catch me :victory:

EDIT: Video is up, linked below

Please don't comment on my accent, it is very Afrikaans and English is not my first language

EDIT EDIT: My first name is Phillip so out of habit I thought you were talking to me, when you were actually speaking to Phil No1

Either way, I hope it helps

I won't send the pics because they were nothing like the info that wabbit has provided.

Well done wabbit.  :hatoff:
