This weekend I serviced our 2014 GD i30 Diesel hatch and noticed that it doesNy have the label onthe engine cover stating that it doesnt have a DPF.

Has Hyundai changed this recent or did they miss putting the label on mine?

I havent driven the car incase ive put the wrong oil in it.

I have used castrol edge 0w40

Im going to call the dealer and find out this morning

Hi Mate, That's  a bit of a worry. They wouldn't have broadcast it from the rooftops if they had added the DPF although in theory they would have had to change emission figures on the Aussie website.

I reckon you would have noticed fuel usage fluctuating though if you did. Every 500 kilometres or so it would take a jump (higher useage)

Do you do a few longer runs or mostly city driving?

Not sure if this link works but if the CO2 figures in the specs sheet fort the  CRDi are up to date  doesn't look like it has a DPF..  :undecided:

http://www.hyundai.com.au/multimediafiles/cars/i30/pdf/hyundai_i30_hatch_specifications.pdf

Emissions are lower for the UK versions..

I live 40km from the city and the car  pretty much does that 4 days a week averaging 60-80km the whole way. Other than that the odd local driving.

Hopefully your right and that spec sheet is up to date. I see they have dropped the 1.8 MPi down from 110 to 107kw

I'll give the service department a call now.

I never say 100% sure but I'm 95% sure there are still no DPF's in Australian I30's.

DPF's ae expensive, so I doubt they would be able to supply a car with a DPF and not expect to charge you for it.

Secondly, check your exhaust pipe at the rear of the car. If there are'nt any sooty deposits, you have a DPF, if it's black as, you don't have a DPF.

I would think a fairly substantial song and dance would be required if they were to put a DPF in mid model (ie being told at purchase, big sticker on manual and engine etc....)

Otherwise, people would act on information in good faith and when it went wrong would have recourse....

Well looks like everyone is correct. No diesel i30 in Australia has a DPF. I confirmed this with the service manager at the local Hyundai dealership Thanks everyone!

My 2012 i30 GD diesel has a sticker on the engine cover stating, this car is NOT fitted with a dpf filter.

Some of the sticker is missing though so I should order a replacement.

The stickers can fall off. Seen a few missing. Even saw an I40 crdi with a B4 sticker. BIG oops right there.

Only problem is Gonz, they could introduce one at  any time...(although most likely at a model update)

They won't sneak one in IMO. The cost of these things would alter the price balance that currently exists between competing models. It will be a blanket legislative requirement for all manufacturer's most likely, and signal the death of Diesel passenger cars.  :fum:

Price won't meant a thing as to whether they fit them or not. It won't happen on the GD's.
It will all depend on what Australian pollution regs are in place and when. We miss out purely because our regs aren't as strict as Euro yet, but they will get there.

Hy must have a big margin if they can add DPF and not alter the price. Why would they want to reduce their margin  I thought they cost between 2 - 5K AUD

I doubt that's what Hy pays for it, but it might be the spare part price...

I didn't mean they wouldn't change the price.
They would have to up the price, so they won't fit them until they have to to meet regs so they can keep prices down.

DPF's interesting conversation, firstly Car advertising sadly here manufacturers and or dealers do not have to notify you of anything if they choose to,but most do, the added cost of a DPF for a large manufacturer is negligible, what the dealer says they're worth for you to replace IS NOT the price they pay, much like all the usual parts they supply, as for DPF's killing the car market for diesel passenger cars, all bull hockey, Holden, Ford and a couple of others have had them for some years, many commercial vehicles now have them, has no one seen the increase of Ad Blu at the pumps these days, it will become normal place within a decade, the only passenger market it could effect is those (what I call casual drivers)who travel less than 400 to 500 K's a week, as was made very obvious recently most car sales people have absolutely no idea whether a vehicle is fitted with a DPF, also when question what it actually does, you just see a stupid blank look on their faces,or worse they try to explain what it is and you know they have absolutely no mechanical knowledge at all.

OMO all people in cars sales should have at least some sort of mechanical background or understanding of the internal combustion engine, the fellow who sold us our first I30(Cyril RIP) could'nt even tell us where the spare and tools were or where the usb and ipod connections where, gone are the days of GOOD sales people has long gone

I can verify that, when we boutght the FD I asked the same question and yes a blank stare was all I received from all of the sales people, no one knew. One dude ran out the back and got the service manager to come in and talk to me.

I find it incredible that salespeople are not aware of the features / limitations of the vehicles they "sell".

The service managar at one very large and well-known service centre that will remain anonymous (initials JH), couldn't even tell me what oil they used.

Almost correct.
Only the AUTO CM Santa-fe has a DPF. Never seen a Diesel SM as they were never sold in Australia.

Good to know. I personally haven't seen a manual with that engine.
