once you have finishing polishing, thru natural causes dust settles on the car whether parked inside or out or moving thru the air. The water spots I refer to is not due to calcium but the water marks caused by dust on the car.......

Just a side note...... I detail cars as a hobby .......

We're getting a bit of topic here but Big Al's Classics show and shine, Perth Street Car, Motivation, Shannon's show and shine with the Mini and tours all around Aus and the US for drag racing with the 32 and 57 which still reside in California with my brother and he's still competing with them as my back is no good for competition anymore, there is also the HSV that I've been racing at Motorplex for the last 7 years ( that got sold yesterday :'( )

If you've been down to the Whoop Ass Wednesday or Fridays then at some point in time you would have been scrutineered by myself or paid your entries to me, sometimes I raced Midweek for testing, mostly weekends though in season.

Possibly have been but nights down there are busy and with several things on the go at any one time people and their cars are usually forgotten quite quickly for me, wont be involved in it any longer as the politics of it all has finally worn it's welcome out for me after all these years and the back is getting to the stage where it can be good or bad from one day to the next.

Driving trips and plane flights are down to 4-5 hours max and washing the car can be a two day task for me now days, or if I manage to wash it in one day then I'll be immobilised for the next two days :Pout:

Did you see that medical doc on TV last night , where they can fix back problems....or help alleviate it.....electrical electrodes I think.....

Doesn't help in my case, damaged nerves and 3 herniation's at L4/L5 aren't fixed so easily plus two operations haven't repaired it yet, next op will be either fusing or artificial disc replacement but that still doesn't fix damaged nerves.

Supposed to be living on daily doses of Endone ( morphene ) but I'd rather put up with the pain than take that crap and ruin my insides as well.

We're getting a bit of topic here but ...
Lol, I dont mind at all. You fellas sure are/were deeply embroiled in the past! Makes for an interesting read.
Sad to hear you're out of action now, craigB, though your input here has been invaluable to me.

Reading all this can tell you boy's fanatical.
I used to be like that at one time but not now. I enjoy the driving part not the washing I just wash it dry it n drive it, just plane water n shami
You are all products  men   :)

Each to their own mate. Washing a car is leisure for me. Much the same as mowing the lawn, it gives me satisfaction. For some it is a chore to be avoided at all costs.

Interesting sub-topic.
...
The dealer personally assured me that no sponges would come within 50 feet of my new car.

And so it turned out :D

Very interesting sub topic.
And a dealer with a good sense of humour it sounds like.

Hey PIL, thank's mate.
Every time I buy a new car or restor a bike new paint job. I was like that too. But as soon as I got stone chip's I would be depressed.

But some great advice here especially what Neptune said about dust.
I had a work mate years back that washed & polished his car's & trucks underneath as well as on top, that was from brand new. If you looked under a new car today they would not look as impressive as looking under this guys ten year old car. Told me he just wash under them after it rained. But he lived very close to Sydney CBD
Off-Topic:
CraigB what class's did you compet in Drag racing?
Cheers

Pro Modified ( Doorslammers ) with the 57, Supercharged Outlaws with the 32 and Super Street with the HSV until 4 years ago when I broke 10.99 and couldn't be bothered moving up to Super Sedan so it sat in the garage and did weekly trips around the block which is why I finally decided to sell it, can use the money elsewhere.

A bit mundane... but it's the mundane daily that make a good car great.
The door pocket bottle holder can handle a 1.5l bottle no problem. Great practicality .

Wow great Craig , it's hard when you have a car or bike that will go quicker than the time for street car or street bike, you get a buzz breaking the barrier going into 10's but your forced to meet all the safety reg's . a lot of people back off so they don't go quicker than 11.00 , the new motor bikes are the worst as i've seen a lot of young guys ride to track with a new stock bike & go quicker than 10 and need to update licence & fit all the other bits like the group 1 or 2. so they don't go back.

parked at hornsby westfield today. as i walked into the shops i saw this woman with a car-load of kids pull in next to my car and had a fleeting moment of premonition. came back 10 mins later to find the car parked over the parking lines and a dent in my rear door.

the car was an old battered camry with flaking paint, dents, rust and scrapes. i confronted the woman who denied it was her, or her 3 kids and that the dent could've already been there. after having JUST spent the last 2 hours cleaning and waxing the car, i assured her that the car was immaculate when i arrived.

i was in no way going to claim an insurance job or get the ding repaired - such damage is a fact of life... but her attitude was annoying me. so we did the old swing the door open to see where it lines up and lo and behold it was a perfect fit. suddenly it was a 'woe is me' act to which i basically replied that i had no intention of making a claim, i just wanted her acknowledgement that her kids had banged up my car and a record of the event (a photo of her licence).

so yeah... my immaculate new car didnt last very long. about a month and not even reached the 1500km service.  :disapp:

PiL if it were me I'd show the pictures you've taken to your insurance company where they'll chase up the woman and it'll be at her or her insurance ( I doubt she has any  ) cost, people like that piss me right off and they need to learn respect for other peoples property .

Yeah it was a shame, it'll run 11 flat reliably all night yet that night I wasn't dialled in correctly and blew it  :Pout:  to much expense to fit it out for the next level.

The car had run an unofficial 9.89 before so it was on borrowed time anyway :whistler: now it rests with new owners and is helping to finance the new wheels for the Hy :)

Maybe I'm too soft. That and the effort it would take to fix the ding probably wouldn't be worth the time out of my day.

Out of interest, what would a small job like that cost, you reckon?

Somewhere around the $150 mark would be my guess if it's just a small dent and a bit of paint :undecided:

Craig I'd say that's the best thing, with a car like that you can't drive it on Aussie roads or you risk having it impounded in some states, you have to drive slow, sounds more like a race car.

Sorry to read that Phil, when you see a car like that pull up you move to another spot.

If the pint isn't broken, could one of those paintless dent removal (hail damage) specialists maybe pull it out?
Worth asking them.

The problem is that those little brats haven't learned a thing and there will be other cars damaged too. Surely she has 3rd party property insurance, I'd try getting them to pay through your insurer as has been already suggested. You shouldn't have to live with any defects if you can identify who is responsible, they should pay. :fum:

I drive and use the 1986 GC Meteor (Horse), to go to the shops. It's gold and the clear coat is peeling off the roof, but I just like driving it, 3sp auto of course. You should see the nervous looks I get if I park next to a new limo, but I'm very careful and don't allow any contact between cars.

My thoughts exactly. Would hopefully be able to just polish out any mark after the dent pulled.... :fingers:

BTW Sorry to hear that. It is my worst nightmare...

I'm just wondering if it's worth getting the area fixed up and painted. I'm with nrma and I think I gotta go with who they tell me to. I'd imagine I'd be car-less for a few days.

I'd say go for it. Many years ago with Mrs G's car getting rear ended, RACV recommended a repairer but it wasn't mandatory to use that particular repairer. We did anyway (Brown's) being very good. :victory:

I despise people like that who fail to teach their kids respect.
It's usually because they don't have any themselves.
I hope you can get it repaired to new condition.
