Does anyone know what the maximum turbo boost allowable is on a 2009 1.6 CRDi i30 116hp please?

Thanks.

I have recently replaced the turbo cartridge and need to adjust the VNT stop screw and actuator rod.

I drove the car today and at one point the turbo boost peaked at about 21 - 22 psi.

Most of the time it was around 16psi but if I drove the car at high speed the boost crept up over 18psi.

Does this sound like too much boost?

I'd already had a look. I don't have boost pressure readings as such. I work on what voltage the sensor is at.
Also I wont advise, in this case, on a UK vehicle which possibly runs different ECU mapping to what I have available to me.

I'll floor mine on the way home and see what it says.

Not very scientific but it might help.

Do you have 5spd or 6spd?

The most boost I see when really booting it is 19. something.

Results:

When the car is cold the turbo will boost up to around 22psi

As the car warms up the boost will spike up to about 16psi then settle down to 13-14 psi.

I have tested this on 2 mornings on the way to work and the results are the same.

I wonder why it allows a cold/cool engine to boost so much????

No, I normally wouldn't either but only did it for testing purposes.

Turbo's love cold air which is denser than warm air. You can buy after market water spray kits  for the intercooler which sprays water on to the intercooler to keep the intake air cooler

Yes, even though the air is intercooled, once the exhaust gas hits the turbo shaft, a lot of heat energy is transferred into the cold side, which reduces the turbo's effectiveness. Whatever this reduction is, most likely determines the size and design of the turbo.

Doe's anyone know if you send your chariot into a HY dealer for a service and they check and find it need a ecu update do they just update the parameter that needs updating or do they do a complete update?

reason for asking is that you send your car in for service and they update the ecu program it will wipe off your remap

ECU update is just that, complete update of the chip. Unless you tell them to put the old parameters back in, they're gone.

Same as flashing your BIOS on a computer

You wouldn't remap your ECU while still under warranty  ( well you could but that would be silly ) so by the time warranty is over then it would be very unlikely that Hyundai would ever do another ECU update so any re-mapping should be safe.

Then there's that, yeah. So probably good, but ask first.

Sounds 100% right.

Checked it with the scanner at work last time I had it plugged in. So ecu reading not off a gauge.
