im not sure mate. its on ebay - :link: Hyundai I30 Right Front Strut FD 09 07 04 12 | eBay

They have positive feed back on Ebay but that mainly pertains to delivery. They are a legit company but couldn't easily find any general feedback online (positive or negative) I guess for those sort of $ worth a try.  :goodjob:

I have seen them crack there before but not that bad. You might be onto something there.
Replacement lower arm probably readily available 2nd hand.

OK!

so i have installed the new drop links...

turns out its not the cause of the knocking/rattle noise. next step is to replace the strut.

Suspension specialist Pedders will do an inspection and report at a reasonable cost.. Just an idea, might help.

I wouldn't waste my time with Pedders...unless you want just about everything that has even the slightest of wear replaced...  :head_butt:

I'm sure if they're asked just to find the cause of the knocking they'll rectify only that part, they will list and mention any worn parts but if they aren't the cause then there is no immediate need to fix anything else.

From experience I've found Pedders to be like Ultra Tune.  There are some good operators out there, but also some dodgy buggers!!

He only needs to get it diagnosed , if it is knocking that hard should not take much expertise up on a hoist to find the problem. Only need to pay for inspection.

I had a problem with the Falcon whereby it was getting unstable between 80-100.

Took it to Pedders and they diagnosed a lot of things, for a lot of the folding (over a grand from memory).

Took it to Yellow Cabs service depo and they knew what the fault was by me telling them and fixed it (and some bearings) for a couple of hundred.

Returned home and looked at the Pedders quote, and you guessed it, the part that was causing the problem was not listed as an issue.

I took mine to a suspension place yesterday who confirmed a knock I was hearing was not suspension related. They advertised a $10 fee, but old mate charged me nothing.  $28 for a quote is robbery in my opinion. If I was going to go down this path, I would google the specific Pedders store to try to establish if it was one of the good ones. Otherwise I would go to a small shop, which is likely to do a quote for free (or a much smaller fee).

appreciate your input beerman,

however given what HA quoted me to diagnose, and the amount of locals who have suggested Pedders and given them a  :goodjob: i thought i would just go to them, my local suspension specialist has stuffed me around in the past, and some friends as well. all good. if Pedders dont give me the answer im searching for, of course i will be unhappy, but the guy at Pedders asked me exactly what problem i was experiencing so he could focus on that area and diagnose as an importance. AND, wrote it all down on the computer for my booking. I can guarantee that there is a fault in the drivers strut tower along with the possibility of an engine mount, as when i apply weight to the car it is now "creaking"... i just need a professionals diagnosis before i spend the money on the parts.

Hey all!

update time / rant

ok... so ive gone ahead and started replacing practically everything i can think, of, the car was taken for its Pedders check and to say the least i am not impressed... i have a dash-cam and surprise surprise they left the vehicle ON, so naturally the dash-cam recorded everything, the vehicle was NOT hooked up to any system whatsoever, no dust guards removed to visually inspect engine mounts, and after a measly road test, and 5 mins in the shop, they came back with, "front and rear engine mounts" so i paid my $28 and took it home, only to be very disappointed in Pedders services upon watching footage..i then proceeded to start dismantling, only to find that the front engine mount was slightly worn, and the rear was not.. mind you, you cannot see the rear until the bottom dust guard is removed.. so i replaced the front engine mount, bought a rear as a fail safe for future events.. ive replaced the link pins and sway bar bushes, all lower control arms bushes, and the result is still the same... definately NOT impressed.

after looking at some info on similar threads here, and googles trusty searches, ive wound up with strut tops commonly making this type of noise, low and behold ive tightened the 3 nuts on each strut top, and the noise went quiet for a few days...

so... ive now got brand new strut tops and brand new strut top bearings to go in when i get a chance, is there anything else i should look at to replace while i am there?

TIA.
