Hi All

new owner of an i30 1.4 2009 Hyundai, i love the car, but I've noticed what i think might be an issue,

if i lightly rest my foot on the clutch pedal i can feel it vibrating, when i press it down the vibration can still be felt till about 1/3 down, fully pressed down it cant be felt, also i had the driver window open i can hear a sort of whistling sound, which goes away when the clutch pedal is pressed down,  and returns when foot is lifted off the clutch pedal.

Am hoping this doesn't mean i have a failing clutch, i do sometimes have a little difficulty going into first or into reverse, but this is intermittent,

Hope someone might be able to shed some light before i have to take it to a garage.

Thanks All :)

I'm not a mechanic but i remember having similar on a car i had many moons ago.

From memory i think it was the Release Bearing being the cause.

I left it as it was an old banger so wasn't going to pay out until new clutch required.

Is it still within warranty or did you get a warranty when you bought?

If so, get it checked out

Hi SP1884

 :wttc:

The notchy gearshift is a well know issue on the earlier i30's but most times it's sorted with a change of the gear oil. A second recipe would be a adjustment of the gearshift cables.

I hope  you NEVER rest your foot on the clutch. You'll overheat and wear the clutch out, in no time.  :fum:

There are quite a few discussions on here about the thrust or throw out bearing (I think it has several names)

Sounds like the most likely scenario. They can rattle or squeak away for quite a while without failing. Usually much cheaper than a clutch to replace (parts wise) although you have got a labour component as well.

Certainly worth trying to get it sorted under the limited warranty..
