i have sourced a leather steering wheel for my SX wagon.

I last changed a steering wheel on a car twenty or so years ago and hence no airbag was involved.

Can anyone tell me if I should be taking this to a garage to carry out or whether it is something a novice could carry out?

What happens to the airbag mechanism when you put a leather steering wheel on?

If you get the hyundai leather wheel then the airback fits back on. However sourcing the genuine wheel can be problematic and expensive as other members in .au have found. Once in a blue moon you can get one on ebay in the UK.

Some members have had excellent results getting their existing wheels professionaly covered in leather.

If you attempt it yourself, disconnect the battery and wait 30 minutes (thats a safe waiting time for most cars worldwide as far as airbag disconnection goes) before you remove the airbag loom connectors).

Bear in mind you may need a steering wheel puller in order to get the wheel on if its pressed tightly on the shaft (sometimes you can pull them off by hand, other times you need a puller)

But other than that i would assume no real dramas, I'll be attempting to get my wheel off soon in order to add audio controls to it.   How much is the leather wheel costing?
