  • miracles can happen
the service intervals for the 2011 are if are only doing the warranty one 1,000,15,000,30,000,45,000,60,000 so on so on,I do all the optionals myself at the 7,500 K intervals.

So if the car you are buying has done 40,000 K's it is due for it's next major at 45,000 K's,to keep the warranty it needs to have had the 1000 k initial,a 15,000 K and the 30,000k,not sure where a 20,000k come into the mix, unless your owners service manual is different to mine for both my 2011"s

ahh thanks,

My understanding is that if its been a business car (confirm with hyundai today) then the warranty will run out in september this year anyway>?

Dad's having second thought .... grrrr

1. He's worried about the warranty
3. small amount of rego
4. only 1 key

I think he just needs to ring and confirm things today, but if its only a 3 year warranty should he ask for more from car yard?

It is a valid concern, probably only the Auto that could come back and bite you/him.. if the warranty expires this year ... :undecided:

So before paying in full - negotiate a price based on assumption of 5 year warranty (didn't know about 3 year) and concerns with key and gearbox? Or are we being silly?

If it's nearly $19,000 I think your dad can do better.. get a pretty good new car for that at the moment (as much as I love Diesel i30's especially the CW)  :undecided:

So warranty is okay for 5 years or 130,000kms when its a business one. The service history might be an issue with regards to the engine (essendon hyundai said).

Dad's still keen but would probably negotiate price based on:

Key, Reg, and 45k service which in total will all add up to 1500k roughly

Has he paid a deposit and signed a contract?  If so, then he might not be in a position to negotiate a better price.

Yeah the SLX was nice - reverse beeping, auto lights when dark, bright new lights (can't remember what they are called), Bluetooth (my one doesn't have this), cage.

With that key do I just buy it and then it works? How do you get it programmed?

A locksmith can cut the key for you, but I believe Hyundai will need to tune it to the car. Though you may find a few locksmiths who can do this for you too

I've had a locksmith programme a key for a car for me previously.  It was a Commodore, but the key had to be programmed to the car nonetheless.

yeah he has :(

Thats okay he rang today and its still good to go but the guy said he will check the service when it comes back from road worthy. I suggested ask him to do a service (probably not full 45k) before he picks up and pays on wed. The guy also said he would check out the key situation.

Dad had a little freak out after finding 2inches too much oil in motor and transmission - he rang Hyundai and they said be careful as you could have a hydraulic lock up - now he's raining mechanic that did service in 15/5 to see why this happened ....

2cm is not so much. Should be rectified but I don't think it'll have any long term effects.

Note, the oil should always read slightly high. This is because the oil filter holds 300mls of oil, but this leaks back to the sump when the engine is not running. The correct amount of oil is 5.3 litres no more, no less.

Dad said it's now about 6mm higher thank the full line when it's cold in the motor. And the auto trans is 2cm above full line - can't figure out how to drain some oil from the trans.

I don't have access to a Owners' Manual at the moment, so I could be wrong, but make sure your Dad is measuring the fluids under the correct conditions.  For example, in a previous car, the transmission fluid level could only be accurately checked level, after a certain amount of driving, with the car running, and in Park.  Any other condition would give a false reading.

Somebody else who has access to the Owners' Manual might be able to correct me or confirm though.

Sadly, that information is not available in the manual AFAIK. All I can tell you is that the trans takes 6.6 litres of trans oil to fill. However, in other makes of car, it is normal to run the car until the trans is hot, park on a level surface and move the selector through each gear with the engine idling, then read the dipstick. I would follow this procedure unless advised otherwise. I would NOT drain any fluid at this stage and if you're worried, go to Hy and have them advise you.
