  • Maybe I might possibly consider thinking about it.
Hey everyone. I'm in Tassie and don't actually own a Hyundai.

However, my sister was looking at cars last weekend at the dealers. It was a depressing process and I felt sorry for her. If I were available, I'd accompany she and her husband to provide another perspective, but we live 1200km apart. She called me Sunday afternoon to seek my opinion on another type of car -- a 2008 Holden (Vauxhall/Opel) Astra.
I advised her to stay clear of those, or any Holden ending in "a". Better still, ANY Holden

So I asked her if she'd looked at the FD series i30. She had, but the ones she'd seen at dealers were a little out of reach for her budget.

I jumped online (while still talking to her) and found a private sale car, a 2011 white SX automatic with a modest 87000km in her price range. It sounded good from the ad, so I suggested she call the seller.
She did so, and later in the afternoon went to see it.

After checking it over and going for a test drive, a deposit was paid. Two days ago it passed a pre-purchase inspection with flying colours. Yesterday the balance payment was made and they drove it home!
This weekend, an approved installer will be fitting the baby seat.

She loves the car and it was a lucky event for everyone; the seller, who had just posted the ad on Sunday morning. My sister and her husband, who were struggling with a smaller two-door car (Mirage) and for myself. I started researching cars in this class late last week, and I've found a new appreciation for the i30.

In fact, a metallic grey GD series SR was parked near me today -- quite pretty!

So...when I (finally) grow out of my boy-racer phase, this may well be our next car.

Thanks for reading my TL:DR story  :whistler:

lol it's all downhill from here!

Of course. You have a functioning brain. Congrats!

I didn't realise how diabolical the Malibu was either. At the caradvice site they compared the mid-sizers. Okay, the i40 came mid-fieldish, but the Malibu trailed the six or seven cars tested.
Quite an achievement there.

G'day.

You don't need to grow out of your boy racer ways to buy an I30. There is after market support out there for them. And the 1.8 was 2nd only to Mazda SP25 for power in its range. Better yet get an SR. Whatever you do don't consider the I30 as a grandpa car. It can be as fun as rest.

Hey Daz! Consider sub-dividing your photobucket account into more albums.
Too many photos!

But jeez you've owned some cars over the years too. What, you didn't get enough yawns with the first Lancer?  :P

I'm guessing the answer to your riddle relates to HSV? Or SSV?

Doggie, I too was a Perthie for 8 years. Great place that. Little Creatures at Freo in particular.

Yes indeed, I will refer them. However I don't expect them to be very active. They welcomed their first child into the world (and the old car) last month.

She was struggling with a 3 door 96 Mirage (Colt). She loves the extra space of the i30. I'll be visiting them next week so I'll be seeing quite a lot that weekend!

I have the other H. It's off the road at the moment. But then, it's also 25 years old

Hi mcmonte,

Great first thread (and post).  As Dazz has said, he is in Tassie (but one of those filthy northerners) and I am down in the wonderful south of the state.  Gee I hope you live south of Campbell Town, otherwise I might have to remove my foot from my mouth.

I have been a Hyundai owner on and off for over 10 years now, and they are great cars.  I've owned a Santa Fe, Terracan and the i30 (still have the last two, at the moment).  Even if I move on from the i30, I will remain an active member on this site (if they will let me).  The banter on here is good, the information priceless, and the friendships everlasting.  I've met a few members from around the place, from Dazz and Trish in Devonport, to UM in Queensland and even a member in Scotland.

Enjoy your time on the site, and don't be afraid to post!!
