A$250 isn't too bad...
It ended up at R1769.45, so call it A$177.00.

The gasket was R5.94, oil filter R67.56, windscreen fluid R14.73, then a 'consumables' charge of R100, R271.92 worth of 15W-40 oil, and R30 for the environmental charge. Add 1.8hrs of labour which amounted to R1062.00 to bring me to the subtotal of R1552.15, exculding sales tax.

They said that my rear brake pads were shot, I needed new wipers and both my parklight bulbs were blown but these parts I will do myself when I have the cash available. Strange, I rotated my tyres about 2500km ago and the rear pads looked in great condition still. The wipers I could see are a bit worn and the parklight bulbs I am not going to worry about now :goodjob2:

EDIT: Forgot about the R10 in change that went missing from my ashtray when it went in for the service so add R10 to the total :whistler:

I wish I could get a service at the dealer for that price, then I would consider not doing it myself.

15W-40 oil... Why use such a thick oil for such a new engine...I would use 5W-40.

Hi Aster , i like 15w 40w in a Diesel as that is normally non synthetic but i make sure i know what base oil is used, & change every 5,000k , i just started this school of thought. as a younger friend done the testing the hard way. he had a motor to develop for a paying customer, that is for race use only. he was using synthetic. he experienced engine failures, tied a different well known brand of synthetic oil had more engine failure the failures all indicated lubrication problems. so when he was in USA he went & saw an oil specialist, they said don't worry if it is synthetic or non synthetic the base is the important part, so if you use Synthetic & it does not cost around $150 for 5LT it won't lubricate as well as a normal oil that uses good base oil normally would be a fraction of the price but it works.
i'm not saying you will have problems, i'm just saying this motor was under high stress so showed up the oil he was using, an average street used motor would be fine. he went to a oil that used Pennsylvanian Crude & no more problem. just very hard to get oil's that use that crude now.
but i'm not paying extra for synthetic when i can get good lubrication a lot cheaper. but i don't have my i30 CRDi now but still have a diesel .
cheers
ps not trying to claim anything just saying what i saw with my own eye's as i go to the track & also saw same motor fail on the Dyno in testing, changed the oil & problems stopped.

Compared to Aust you got off pretty cheap. My dealership charges $110 an hour.
On the other hand 1.8hr to do a basic oil and filter service is about 0.8hr too long.

But how much an hour do they pay the person doing the job?

Exactly!  :fum:

They blame the rest on overheads, so I always get my services done in a single story building!  :whistler:

-/+ Yesterday the whole day was spent for the sake of AirBerlin airlines even though I was to have come home after a night shift - I was called to the a/c to investigate a brake at 6:40am, which happened to be leaking - No Go item. We didn't have a spare brake for B737, neither did Nordtech, whereas Transaero (another Boeing maintenance station) refused to lend its spare to AirBerlin, so the latter sent it with a day flight, but not as AOG item (Aircraft On Ground) - which meant we would get the brake from a cargo terminal today only. So it took us a considerable efforts to persuade the customs to let us take a brake upon a/c arrival. I replaced the brake and left the airport at 22:00 - here is how I spent my day off  :)

- It is only Wednesday here, still a few more hours until the weekend

It does! There is about a 5m landing down to the lake, but it dives down quite sharply. There have been a few incidents in which people have misjudged the embankment or their speed, and once they hit the brakes over the red gravel the cars simply slide down into the lake below

The stadium at the back was built for the 2010 Football World Cup, but lately it is more used for rugby matches than anything else. It is supposed to look like a giant sunflower from the sky-
