Hello guys

New guy here. I picked up my new-to-me 2011 Hyundai i30 GLS today and loving it so far!

Silly me forgot to rotate my phone when I took the pic...

I stay in possibly the windiest city known to man, Port Elizabeth. I am an IT techie and this is my first proper financed car

I look forward to many discussions and posts on here :)

Thanks everyone!

Posting from the phone so I'll try and give as many details as possible :)

She was a lease car that the company took back right after she hit 150'000km, and I bought her with 154900km on the clock. My previous car was a car that was only produced on SA as far as I know - a 1996 Honda Ballade Luxline 150i.

The specs of the i30's here are a bit confusing, as I have the folding mirrors but a 5 speed manual gearbox, and no cruise control but leather seats (without the rear fold back cup holders). I suspect she was part of the batch that had bad door rubbers as mine are shot and need to be replaced.

So to sum it up:

Charcoal/titanium/gunmetal grey 2011 Hyundai i30 1.6 petrol
154'000km on the odo
leather seats w/ lumbar support
no rear foldback cupholders
electric folding mirrors
autochromatic rear view mirror
dusk and dawn sensing headlights and rain sensing wipers
climate control
Radio head unit firmware V1.04.GEN

These are all things I *think* are different to other models possibly around the world :)

But nontheless, it is a fantastic car and so far I am not regretting the purchase!

This might be a good time to ask, but is there any way I will know if I have the model with the Variable Valve Timing?

Reason I am asking is that I have spoken to a few people and I have received conflicting information. If I could check it by checking the engine or VIN number I would be happy to. I like to know stuff

@Rick-without the P, what's wrong with my colour huh??  :P :P :P

I seem to have found my engine model on the reg. papers which shows it as the G4FC lump. According to Wikipedia it has CVVT - so at least I know that :)

Charcoal/elephant/titanium/gunmetal grey cars are really popular here in South Africa for some reason. I think it's to mask any dirt that we pick up...plus they look hot :happydance:

Oh, and I went to go check my car out properly just now. I worked out of town all day yesterday so I have not gotten a chance to have a nice look. I don't seem to have the rain sensing wipers after all - I guess I was confusing it with another one I had a look at prior to choosing this one.

I am still fiddling with stuff,  mostly getting the head unit to remember which song was played last as it forgets when I turn the ignition off. Although I seem to think I just need to buy a faster flash drive - the one I am using is old and it doesn't transfer more than 11MB/s at most. Also finding all these nifty little storage spaces and figuring how the climate control works...all this is so new to me coming from a car thats only form of aircon was opening the window! :p

Welcome Wabbit.    Congrats on your car.  Sure has done some kilometres.  Yes some interesting specs for an FD model.   The Australian equivalent like mine has the 2 litre motor.  I think the 1.6 also went in the UK models.

Above all enjoy. :goodjob:

Pardon me asking but what does the FD mean? I have also seen GD float around here as well...we just get the GLS and the Executive AFAIK, GLS being the entry level spec and Executive has some more goodies like cruise control, rain sensing wipers and a 6-spd tranny.

The cars around these parts do plenty of mileage due to our towns sitting far apart and public transport being as useless as a paper anchor. Cars here usually get replaced once they reach 350'000km, or the engine falls out, which ever comes first

Yes, the FD, 1st generation i30, GD is the 2nd generation i30, one wonders what the 3rd generation i30 will be in a couple of years, probably HD. :D
