Hi all,

I'm looking for some advice please. I have a 2008 SLX CDRi Auto. While putting my window up the other day there was a crunch and the drivers window did not close properly. Seems like the glass had broken free on one side but luckily by guiding it I was able to close it fully (raining of course). While testing the next day the other clip seems to have broken and the glass is now free to move up and down freely. I now have it held up/closed with gaff tape.

I've removed the door liner but can't see the best way to remove the inner door panel. I found a link to a posting on this site for removing the inner liner but the link does not seem to work anymore.

Could anybody advise the best way of removing the inner door liner and glass please? I have removed the inside door release assembly but the cables which go through the panel are still connected. Looking on eBay I see the inner steel panel with the guides etc are available but can I buy just the plastic clips which I suspect are broken? Has anybody experienced this problem before?

Thanks guys

Ray

Sorry to hear that Ray. I suspect Moderator Phil or someone else may be able to help  :fingers:

Not a common problem, fortunately ..  :coolingoff:

My wife's 2008 model did the same thing about 18 months ago.  She took it into the dealer and it was fixed under warranty thankfully.  I tend to think that this is going to become something of a problem as the cars age though.

I've had the right rear window come out of the rear track twice recently.  Luckily I have been able to poke a slim bar down from the window opening and push on the track, guiding the glass back into the track.  There doesn't seem to be any rhyme nor reason for it to come out, and after removing the door trim I couldn't see any way of adjusting the track either.

Thanks guys,

The PDF is exactly what I needed, thank you. I think the window broke free because I had been a little remiss in cleaning the car and the guides must have been a little tight. What can be used to lube them do you think?

I recently did an 800k trip with the cruise control set to 80kmh with said faulty window down and no A/C on. The diesel/auto returned 5.7L per 100k which is good I think.

Anybody know what level of component parts are available for the window regulator? Can the clips that attach the glass be purchased separately or do I have the buy the whole assembly?

Cheers

Ray

Silicone grease to lube the slides.  Do not use WD40 or an oil.

Finally got the inner steel plate off my drivers door after dancing around the problem for a couple of weeks. Found one plastic clip which is part of the window glass clamp and attaches to the drive wire had broken into four pieces. Called Hyundai parts, have to buy the complete assembly including the steel plate for over $300 to get the plastic clip.

Hunted on the web and found a 3D printer file for the clip which I've downloaded, anybody want to have a go at printing it?

Found a number of sites in Europe selling similar clips for other makes, nothing for Hyundai as yet but I'll report back if I find anything.

Guess I'll do the rounds of the wreckers to see if I can find a damaged door to take one off. Anybody know if the passengers side uses the same clips?

Cheers

Ray

Would have to be the same clips left and right Ray surely...I'm hoping to get a 3D printer end of this year or early next (when technology has improved a tad more and prices have stabilised)

They are still pretty thin on the ground with the average Joe Blow...

Guys I hope no one else breaks one of the clips out of warranty. Seems like these and the internal door release levers are the two things that break. $120 - $150 for the window regulator from most wreckers if they have one. Most told me they could sell them 10 times over there was so many people looking. I've called in excess of 40 wreckers from Coolangatta to Gympie trying to find one of these. They are like rocking horse manure evidently.

Best price I got on the original Hyundai part was $190 but no one has any, 2 to 3 week lead time is the best guess. Just as well I work close enough to home to walk!

Found a company called PowerWin based in Brisbane who specialise in the repair of window regulators. They have re-engineered the plastic clips to strengthen them (and avoid being sued) and supply a refurbished complete assembly (no speaker) for around $200 exchange, bit less for trade. They also offer a fitting service if required. hxxp://www.powerwin.com.au/, seem like nice guys. If you get the actual part elsewhere they are interested in buying the damaged unit to refurbish as long as it has both glass clamps with it.

Don't know what the story is in the UK but these things seem to be cheap as chips over there, found a wrecker online selling the complete panel for 15 pounds ~$30. Anybody going to the UK want to fill their suitcase with bits for the return trip?  :D

Regarding the door release lever, my SLX has the chrome plated ones which again seem to be quite unique as most are black. If anybody sees any at a wreckers that don't have the chrome peeling off please let me know.

Anyway hope this helps someone out...

Cheers

Ray

Nice work, Ray. I dealt with a similar problem on Mrs G's SEAT Cordoba. The plastic carriages were getting brittle since 1995 and I went through a spate of having to visit wreckers for carriages that were still intact or do some creative wire binding (Robinson Crusoe would have been proud of me) to restore functionality. My work must have been pretty good because they've lasted quite a few years since then without recurrence.

If I had to go through it again, I would definitely go with 3D printing. :victory:

While I had the window regulator out I figured I'd check the state of the other guide and lubricate the whole system with white grease. While it's easy to remove the guides by popping the wire off a pulley, its less fun to refit them. After much swearing and trail and error I found an easy method to re-string the system.
Fit both spring loaded ends into their respected guides, (you need to remove the glass clamp bracket to do this), fit one of the fixed ends to one clip. Move the guides to the bottom of the channels, by now pulling the incomplete clip towards the bottom stop (which is quite easy with one hand) you can pop the other fixed end of the wire into the incomplete guide.

Once the panel is remounted on the door reconnect the controls and run it up until you see the glass clamps in the access panels.

Enough about window regulators now I think.

Ray
