I live in Sydney Australia I live 12 kms from Central Railway.. I have a 2013 i30 Active..
Radio reception in and around home is pretty good (talking AM radio here) but once I get to Campbeltown (say 60kms from Central) the reception is terrible.
Does any one else have reception problems like this..
I had a 2001 AUlll Ford Falcon before and the radio in that was brilliant, can I retune the radio (reset it to factory default and rescan the stations)
Maybe I will get it check at the next service...
Cheers
Keith

I have 40+ year old cars with fantastic AM radio reception where I live (@ 90 kms south of Perth).
The reception in my 2012 i30 Active is poor by comparison.
Made worse by SatNav, dashcam, i-phone chargers, etc, but still crap IMO.

Have similar AM problem too.

The reception of AM and AMA(?) is nonexistent.

Had a similar problem with my Golf and the ariel base needed replacing. Is the i30 known for poor ariels?

Sadly, AM reception is seen more as an afterthought than a necessity since the inception of FM & DAB. Consequently, manufacturers do not supply good AM circuitry. Have the aerial cable checked for correct insertion & query with HY.

Yep. The standard is pretty poor. The only extra problem I have is interference on AM when the motor is running. Turn it off and reception is crystal clear.
I've found an FM station (community one) near me which has much the same music as I like ok AM so haven't bothered with it.
On day I might get a round tuit and consult an autolec.

I have found that Australian made cars always had the best AM & FM reception performance - local knowledge.   The i30 AM performance is not any different to Japanese and European cars I have driven. In terms of sound quality, I wish it was possible to adjust EQ setting by source - ie different settings for AM, USB, Bluetooth, CD, FM etc  (GD Elite)

That's a sure sign of poor earthing or filtering. Your RF suppressor is probably not doing its job. A decent auto electrician should be able to resolve this for just a handful of dollars in about 10 minutes.

Yeah Gonz.
I knew that. In the old days I would have done it myself.
Just really can't be bothered.  :disapp:

A clean and refit of any earthing strap ends might be a worthwhile quick fix. :goodjob:

I don't think that is 'shopped either (or if it is they got all the reflections on the panel work just right too).   I wonder what it's purpose is.
