Number 5 - I'll add a table for the UK ones built in Korea but it's only going to have yours in it until more folk fill in the gaps. C being a comfort doesn't make a lot of sense to me at the moment, so I cant guess the others.

Number 9 - I just need to copy some data down from above, that will be fixed shortly.

Number 10 - 8 is correct, up until this year the years start in the august before. so from August 2007 to August 2008 (approximately) the number will be an 8.

Ok thats it updated, the "R" is a bit of a mistery, lets assume it means RHD for the moment

Might need to press CTRL-F5 (in IE) to see the update.

Still plenty of info missing/blanks to fill in, particularly on digits 8 & 9.

So does this mean if I was to sell I can now say 2008

Cheers for the up date.

Shambles - can you check your VIN as you bought your Premium model 6 months after me and see how it compares.

This does indeed mean right-hand-drive, Left hand drive is a "P" in the same field (updated in 1.3)

So does this mean if I was to sell I can now say 2008

It could correctly be described as a MY08 (Model Year) but the MY designation can be pretty confusing (take the MY11 being available in the UK since April this year doh!)

Hmm. My MY10 (A) Style variant is also a C. I guess the messed up. I'll add both for the moment.

That field seems to get a new meaning each model year. I guess 2008 was the same as the MY2010 cars. I'll add that next time I do an update, thx.

My i30 is listed by the dealer as a MY09 but it has an A in the VIN which means a MY10 according to your decoder. Prod date is 01/09/09.

Vehicles built in September are often the next model year (so that is quite possible) :goodjob:

My 7th digit your post claims is always a 1, but mine has an A.  Any ideas what that might mean?  That it's an Elantra Touring not an i30?
Also, my 9th digit is a 5 and your chart labels this as a 'check digit'.  I don't understand that, can you clarify?

Just for reference my Model Series (digit 5) is B and in Canada my Elantra Touring trim level is a GL.  They sold three trim levels, this is the middle, the L, GL, and GLS.  Edit:  This was in the 2010 model.  I see right now you can't buy an L trim level.

Any further details needed?

"A check digit is a form of redundancy check used for error detection, the decimal equivalent of a binary checksum. It consists of a single digit computed from the other digits in the message.

With a check digit, one can detect simple errors in the input of a series of digits, such as a single mistyped digit or some permutations of two successive digits."

If anyone needs an information extracted from VIN code of your car, send me a message with VIN and I'll work it out or you can do it yourself by registering here http://www.elcats.ru/ ,  but as far as I know this procedure is forbidden for non-Russian IPs (at least that was true a year or two ago).

Where did you find that sticker?
There are only three places where VIN can be found in i30 and neither seems to look similar to yours

It seems to me to belong to a certain part as one can make out "Part number" and "Serial number" right under those capital letters

I did not see it neither near driver's door nor on the windscreen, so I open the bonnet to find another one. Then I found the two stickers in the engine room, near the fender, both left and right side.

It shows "Vehicle Identification Number" which is in red, on the top of sticker.
Below the VIN number, it shows "Part No. XXXXXXXXXXX" and "Serial No. XXXXXXXX"

I'll try to check the one which is under my seat, and take a better photo of this sticker tomorrow.

here one can decode first three letters of VIN, which are known as WMI (World Manufacturers Identification)
as for RFH: RF - Taiwan; FH - there is nothing there

Does the other one you found start with "LFH"?

In which case the letters could mean "Left Fender [Hyunda]" and "Right Fender [Hyundai]"

Or maybe not.

Cool !  :goodjob2: It does mean Taiwan. So the sticker is the correct VIN.
However, can you decode my car is equipped with U engine ?

If Shambles is right, that sticker belongs to fender and has nothing to do with VIN

could you write down that Part number, which is inscribed on the sticker?

I have tried to replace those first three letters with both TMA and KMH, but nothing worked - VIN is invalid

Oh, thanks for reminder.
Indeed I forgot to take the photo of another sticker. But this RFH xxxxxx sticker is on driver side, we are left drive here. So it seems not be [right fender hyundai], I think.  :D
I'll check again tomorrow.

I took the pictures of both stickers with better quality.
