Title: ESC light on
Post by: wolvesmarc on December 22, 2018, 22:47:45
Administrator Comment From  :link: SOLVED: ESC light on at 50 mph - every time - help needed (https://www.i30ownersclub.com/forum/index.php?topic=46404)

Hi, new on here but have been meaning to get round to registering for a while to see if I could get help with a few bits.

Today I noticed the ECS light on permanently (Only ever seen it flicker when it has gone into action once or twice) Not sure what speed I had been doing just before that as I'm not sure what point it actually came on.

Switched ignition off at lights, restarted engine and it was gone. Then without noticing when, it was back. Again - Turned off ignition at lights and when I got the chance put foot down to see if a certain speed triggered it.... 50mph!

Just started doing a bit of searching and came across this thread and more importantly your solution! Will be ordering a new switch as soon as I can, just happens it isn't the best time of year for deliveries etc.

The only thing I haven't tried yet is CC but will try that tomorrow! Thanks for your work over a year ago! :victory:

Going to collect my switch and a stubby spanner off my Dad today so hopefully will be giving this a go either today or tomorrow!

Another thing that I've noticed is that the hill assist hasn't been working since the ESC light came. I always have to reverse out of my drive onto the hill so I'm facing upwards and when I brake and engage the clutch to go into 1st the car always holds until I drive away but this hasn't been happening tried it at various places where I'm used to it kicking in and have had no joy. Not sure if it is related but will post back either way once the new switch is on.

Thought I would update as I finally got round to collecting the switch. Had it fitted on Thursday lunch time. The old switch felt knackered, tested no continuity. Everything instantly back to normal!

Cruise Control working again
Gear Change Prompt is back
Hill assist is good
Revs are back to normal
No ESC light at 50mph

Friday
As above all good, feels so much better to drive now as before when I was at just under 1500 revs it felt like it was below 1000.

Saturday
Started it this morning and ESC light is back on and won't go away, everything is still working fine though. Is it possible that the error code needs removing? I did have a someone put it on a diagnostic machine and I got 2 error codes one of which showed as a clutch signal error (I can dig the codes out if anyone is interested in them)
Or do I now have another problem? Did this happen to anyone else who went through this process? Thanks again for any help in advance!

No problem, only the light being on and the ISG left to sort... for now

Should also add while I'm at it that since the switch was replaced and the ESC light came back permanently the ESC OFF switch no longer seems to do anything. The ESC OFF light used to illuminate previously, need to get it back on a diagnostic machine when I have the time!
