Title: manual transmission oil replaced with ATF oil
Post by: sabotage3d on October 17, 2020, 21:20:21
Hi all, I purchased my i30 2015 1.4 manual a couple of months ago and I decided to service it with the local Hyundai dealer. So I booked interim service and I asked for full replacement of the manual transmission oil.
After they completed the work I noticed they used automatic transmission oil instead and they don't mention flushing the old one where I specifically requested and paid for it.
Please see the attached image from the receipt and from the manual. Do you guys think the ATF oil is compatible with the manual transmission?

The service was on Friday and I didn't notice it back then. They don't work on the weekend so I will call them on Monday.

They’re pretty dopey if they’ve used auto trans oil :head_butt:

You don’t flush a manual box, simply drop the fluid and replace with new 75W-85

Looks like they did engine flush. Could they have mixed the flush to that? I've never heard someone flush manual box.

Required transmission oil can be found in your user manual. Right oil would be the on in the picture... Some car brands use ATF in their manual transmissions. I used to have a car like that. Previous owner had put normal transmission oil in that, which was not good. All the hyundais I've worked with have used regular in manual and atf in automatics. Better ring to the mechanic first thing monday morning.

Thank you guys I will push them tomorrow to put the proper oil. If they don't want to change it should I complain to Hyundai customer service?
@Dazzler It feels unchanged. Its a bit rough compared to German cars.
I am also a bit confused  I paid for the Interim Service which should include: Replace Air Cleaner, Replace Brake Fluid, Replace Clutch Fluid,. They didn't do any of these and they didn't vacuum and wash the car. Is that normal for the dealers in UK?

I called them they claim they put the wrong part number in the system, but they actually put the 75W/85 oil. I am taking them to Hyundai customer service as they have some other discrepancies like they didn't use the official Hyundai stamp in my service book.

Interim service is only engine oil and oil filter with a basic check over, a full service will generally check more items and replace air filter if required...at an extra cost.

Brake and clutch fluid is roughly every 3 or 4 years, gear box oil is 8 to 10 years or 120,000km's.

I don't have the GD manual here, but the FD has mention about transmission oil change in 60tkm. It is needed only in harsh condition driving. When I read what those conditions were, I came to conclusion that almost everyday driving for me is a harsh condition :D

Johnson's silver service?

Wonder if they really used C3 Engine oil or if the got the wrong part number for that too.  I'm no oil expert but I suspect the C3 wont hurt a petrol anyway.

C3 is fine for petrol. C3 is low ash, so it won't hurt the dpf, which is important with modern diesels. They used to put C3 to all engines at local Hyundai service. Probably in the future low ash oil will be needed in petrol cars as more and more petrol engines have particulate filters.
