Hi I have a 2012 that I recently had to change the fuel filter on after getting some water contaminated fuel. I replaced the fuel filter and all was good for a couple of hundred k's . Now after the car has been sitting for 5 or 6 hours I get it started and moving but after a kilometre or two it shuts down . If I crank it for a number of times it starts and runs perfectly for the rest of the day.
I am assuming it has a slight air leak somewhere and after enough time it has drawn in enough air to cause it to stop.
I pulled filter out inspected it and saw no obvious problem so I refitted again and it continued to stop after sitting. Ok I thought ...maybe the fittings are the issue so I decided to try and isolate the problem. I started with the water sender in the bottom of the filter , I got a 12x1.25 bolt added some o rings and refitted to see if the plastic thread on the water sender was the problem, alas not same symptoms. There are no signs of diesel leaking any where are the filter assembly at all, wondering about he fitting the filter screws into but just going out and buying one to teat the theory could be an expensive idea, is there anyway to test if the leak is coming from there ? I have wondered about the sealing capabilities of the connectors on the hoses from the filter itself ......the push button to release fittings dont fill me with confidence....any other ideas ? Thanks for any advice.

Do not assume that there is air. It could be simple as sender filter (inside tank) has a lot crap and when is sitting for long this crap is accumulating at the bottom of tank.In the morning you have fuel in lines, but then is problem getting supply from the tank.
I would check the sender in the tank.
Could be also famous fuel bug.

I will have to look into the fuel tank filter as far as I am aware I havent had any signs of bug the old filter was tipped out and it all looked clean. I have used a bug additive a few tanks ago but will take it on board. cheers

There has been few posts o er the internet where fuel filter assembly has been replaced under warranty with fairly new cars. The fuel heating element had cracked and sucked air in to the system. I had limp mode issues even with new filters. I changed the filter assembly and the problems went away.
If the system sucks air, you should be able to get some fault codes telling about low fuel pressure. At least I got them. They were a bit hard to get. I had to use my own obd reader when the limp mode came on. If I restarted the car the limp mode disappeared and so did the fault code. Not even the dealer was able to get the codes as they disappeared every time I left my car there.
I got limp modes also with new 3rd party filters. They just do not seem to work in my car. After that I have used OEM filters without any issues.
