Bulbs
Hi, someone has just told me that neither of the rear brake lights work on i30 2012 UK (2nd gen I think).
The centre led brake works fine and all the other lights work on the rear.
I'#039m not sure where the brake bullbs actually are where they are on the hatch or the sides of the car body. nbsp The ones in the hatch have the reverse lights and another set of lights which both work. nbsp So i guess they are in the side?

I don'#039t want to start removing the housing as its odd that both bulbs have stopped working so thinking issue is something else. nbsp Last week I did have to drive through a fairly big puddle in the road, maybe the level to the underside of the car so not sure if that might have caused the issue.

Also tri...

Steering
I have a i30 - 2016 with a heated steering wheel.  Today I pushed the button a few times and nothing happened. After a few minutes I pressed it again and it worked.

Are there any specific conditions that hate to be met for the heater to start?

Alternator
My i30 GD with 115k miles is making a bit of a light rattle from the alternator. Garage quoted £360 for new part (aftermarket) + labour. What are peoples thoughts on which is best out of me buying a new aftermarket part or having my original one refurbished?

Cruise Control
Hi All

Since new ( 2013 ) i have never found the cruise control very good on my i30 GD petrol. It isn'#039t broken and give it a flat road and it holds the speed. Add a few hills though and it really is unusable. First it lets the speed drop too much. Then regains the speed aggressively only to go well over once your crest the hill. On the down it gains a good 10 -20Kph which then triggers the downshifting to try to reduce the speed which it gained by holding the gas on too long!!

Basically it responds a couple of seconds after the event, like coming too late for the dance. I have owned Toyotas and Mazdas and they hold the speed like a laser beam compared to this. As soon as the speed gains or looses just 1 -2 kph you fee...

Glow Plug
Yesterday, after years of procrastination, and having mechanics not agree to replace my glow plugs, I finally replaced the glow plugs in my 2013 I30 myself, which has now done 210000 km.
It has had an intermittent long crank, smokey start on cold mornings for as long as I can remember, some days it was ok. It felt like at least one of my tradie neighbours saw me start up in a cloud of smoke in the mornings nbsp so embarrassing. I have now replaced all four with NGK Y-527J plugs, all four original plugs were open circuit.
The results are fantastic, this car has never started this well since I have had it and there is no more smoke and splutter on start. Now it starts without hesitation, every time, better than ever.
Thanks hea...

Air Con
I have noticed the AC is set to start when the car starts no matter what setting it was in when the car was last run. My Toyota came the same way but i was able to turn it off via Techstream software and OBD2 connector. Is this something i can change the behavior on the i30 FD?

Problems & Issues
Recently purchased a 2011 i30 auto wagon.  Great car but develops a miss at around 1500rpm. Usually when cold mabe the first 5 to 10klms of driving. After that it's fine. Any ideas? Is this a common problem? Thanks. Rick.

Oil Leak
Had me little i30 in for it'#039s 8 year service last week (84,000k'#039s on the clock), when I picked it up the mechanic tells me it'#039s developed a leak from the timing cover that apparently he'#039s seen on at least three other 1.6 petrol engines in the last couple of years and it'#039s a known problem with this engine :undecided:

I'#039ve searched everywhere and can'#039t find any info on this reported problem though the mechanic assures me it is known by Hyundai and that not enough or incorrect sealant was used at the factory, I'#039ve spoken with Hyundai service and customer care and neither have heard of this issue either...unfortunately...or I might of had a chance of claiming an out of warranty defect :disapp:

Anyway, the mechanic ...

Radio
My GD-01 head unit suffered the dreaded '#039no sound'#039 issue. nbsp Initially I could get sound by pressing the on/off button repeatedly, but eventually even that failed to work. nbsp I got a quote for $330 to fix it, which is crazy, as I could install a better unit for less money. nbsp In another Hyundai forum, someone mentioned that they fixed their (different) unit by discovering that the screws that hold down the main board, and earth it to the chassis, were loose. nbsp With nothing to lose, I removed the unit (very easy to do) and with half a dozen screws, gained access to the main board. nbsp Sure enough, all 4 securing screws were loose. nbsp They even have earth symbols on the board next to them.
I tightened the screws and reinstalled the unit. nbsp I...

Oil Leak
Hi Folks,

Car is 2017 PD Diesel (D4FB engine) - under warranty so pro serviced at intervals, I have done the oil + filter at the mid-point of this just for peace of mind (roughly 5000kms).

Did oil + filter 2 days ago and as I'#039ve done for yrs on this car and previous, seemed to go fine. Ryco R2695P filter + Valvoline 5w-30 oil. The Ryco comes with 2 o-ring seals, one small one for the end of the bit that runs down the middle of the filter and a much larger one thats for the filter housing itself. Changed both.

Next day as the wife drives out to work, we'#039re about 20kms from town - I notice oil drips on garage floor. Figured I must have accidently spilt some small amount during change that was under bodywork,...
