Very interesting MATT  :snigger:

I wonder who will be the first to install external airbags for pedestrian safety.

Have I just thought of a brilliant idea  :P

Too late.  Already invented.  I saw it a few years ago on TV.  I don't think it ever caught on though.  Instead some manufacturers are using flip bonnets instead.

Quote from George Formby "and another good scheme went wrong" very funny man, wish I had that song.  :D

As for air bags for pedestrians, I've done my best over the years to grow my own and have been quite successful too

I reckon we'd be better off with large skewers on the front of the car so pedestrians don't get thrown up in the air or slammed into the windscreen....  :P

i30  The safety of this car is comprised by the poor location of the airbag wiring , any small animal or object that goes under the front of the i30 will rip the airbag wiring out which is poorly placed at the bottom of the radiator support panel which then makes the car a death trap

Welcome robo....,

Interesting opening statement you're making there. I'll check that tomorrow for myself. The car still manages a long term 5 ***** rating, so it seems to work regardless.

Hmm.. interesting. Isn't that wiring for the knock sensors? Stupid place I admit but it hardly makes the i30 a death trap

Oh, and welcome robo. Are you a cop by any chance? :P

If the wiring for the airbag sensors are damaged, the control light for the airbag system will light up, as the control unit wont get the right info from the sensors.

That being said, it might not be the optimal routing for the wiring.

Wait on, how can you have up front sensors, without the wiring being up front too. It's designed to get destroyed by impact. The inertial computing circuit is safely housed inside the cabin and the air bags would already have been deployed if the front wiring is destroyed.

... any small animal or object that goes under the front of the i30 will rip the airbag wiring out ...

What he's saying is all a pile of crap anyway. I've run over several animals and hit objects while travelling at motorways speeds, and believe it or not my airbag wiring remains intact, so his statement (quoted above) is garbage.

As said previously, Id the wiring was ripped out for the bags they would deploy. However they are nicely protected. Hate to say it but robo is talking absolute puke.

I believe mr robo is one of life's planks. He's posted exactly the same on at least two other forums that I know of, and hasn't been back here since.
