Great finds Alan. I'm off to read them now.

Read the first one - this is interesting given recent comments on the forum:

The new model is more composed on the road than its predecessor. We're a bit surprised by this, given the new car is fitted with a cheaper, less-sophisticated torsion beam rear axle, rather than the multi-link setup used by the old i30.

Thanks Alan, sounds like the motoring press are looking forward to the new i30 almost as much as us  :goodjob:

They got this bit wrong:

The 2012 Hyundai i30 is available with a new petrol engine and a mildly revised diesel unit. Both are now teamed with six-speed manual and automatic transmissions, a significant step up from the four- and five-speed shifters offered previously.

The dreaded "glovebox" rattle again:

The two cars we tested at the launch both had minor niggles: the first with a small rattle near the glove box, the other with untidy bunching in the roof liner material near the door frame.

I wonder why...:

all variants have 60:40 split-fold rear seats, only the Premium’s fold completely flat.

And Drive said: The new i30 doesn’t threaten the likes of the Golf, Mazda3 or Focus for ride quality or handling ability

Neither ride quality nor handling? As one is usually a trade off for the other, to be unable to impress with either is not good. It's getting too late in the game to continually lag in areas that do sell cars in this class - particularly in Australia I think. And Drive has nicely identified the competition and the yard-stick Hy should have been looking to better. :winker:

I'm not sure yet that they have truly bettered their first effort which I always thought would be a hard ask. :disapp: Time will tell how well they did.

But then you read this sort of thing.....

And in the testing, winding conditions no doubt both our Hyundai i30 test cars (Elite petrol manual and Premium diesel automatic) were impressive with noticeable firmness in the shock absorber and spring rates for a flat, connected ride (in the European way).

and this:

Good as the previous i30 was (and it played a significant role Hyundai’s sales explosion during the last four years), the all-new model raises the bar in every department.

Who do you believe?  :whistler:

I think I'll wait for some in-depth reviews against the opposition (rather than a short first drive) before I pass judgement....

It appears that unlike the UK we have speed camera locations, not that many are fixed here.

SATNAV

It's a touch screen with bright easy-to-read graphics and SUNA traffic updates that route you around traffic snarls automatically. Unlike other manufacturers, Hyundai has also done the right thing and included warnings for speed cameras and other road hazards.

Well, at great expense I found me a new model i30 and can definately confirm the sensors are coloured.  :whistler:

They actually look a bit ordinary if you ask me....Surely they could've done a better job of matching the colour?  :undecided:

Are you telling us many speed cameras are broken in WA?  :winker: :D

Hyundai Launches New Generation i30

News media release 29th May 2012

Instantly recognisable as a Hyundai, the new generation i30 builds on the
multi-award winning success of the previous model which has sold over
101,000 units in Australia.

And roughly 2% of them are associated with this club.

Furthermore, at a conservative $20 000 per unit, that's 20 000 x 101 000 =  $2 020 000 000
Over 2 billion bucks!!!
