Title: Dazzler's Camry Hybrid
Post by: Dazzler on August 04, 2010, 13:46:05
Picked up the Camry Hybrid tonight at 5.00pm.. Did about 120 kms of varied driving and showing an average of 6.5 LPH although didn't zero it when I picked it up (will wait until I fill it to the brim)

Has 65 litre tank so hope to be able to get 1000 kms on a trip as ADR figure is 6.0 LPH..

The Colour I got (demo, so no choice of colour) is Arctic Frost .. which is shown on Toyota website as a fairly bright blue similar to the Getz/i30 Sky Blue but when I collected her (about a month since I test drove her and hadn't seen her since) she was lighter than I remember .. Almost an ice blue (hence the name of the paint colour I suppose) Very happy with the colour and the standard of pre-delivery..

I recently picked up 5 ltrs of Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40 for only $40 so got them to throw that in her with a new Totota filter (She has done about 6100 in 5 months)

Only definite Mod I will be doing at this stage is Darkest legal tint on the windows..

Was too dark to take photos when I got home so will do some on the weekend (weather permitting)

FIrst impressions pretty good.. Very refined and comfortable.. More features than you can poke a stick at (had to actually read the manual for some features) Don't normally need to do that..!!!

Doesn't have the character of an i30 though  :'( (don't think I will get quite as attached)

But will be great on long trips ..

Many K's of carefree motoring.............. Do I actually mean that or should I say.............Many K's of being passed by many i30's on Tassie.

ps Many K's of carefree motoring in your new motor

good stuff! how does she go? rocket ship... or Morris Marshal?
Title: Re: Dazzler's Camry Hybrid
Post by: Dazzler on August 05, 2010, 13:48:17
No rocket ship but I think it is because she is exceptionally quiet I think it makes her seem slower...She holds good speed up hills better than I expected (although probably not as easily as the CRDi did)  :'(

Fantastic Cruiser though (as good as the CRDi but a lot more serene) I will know more tomorrow when I drive to Launceston and back for work (200kms) They have given me a New Toyota Hi Ace van to use for a month or so while I help them out up there 2 days per week (it flies but very noisy and harsh)

Decided I want some luxury 2moro after a busy week ( and going to show a M8 in Launceston my new car after work  :D)

Very pleased with economy at this stage (for a big car) Did 100kms this morning at an average of 95KPH and averaged 6.5 LPH (according to the trip computer) See picture below .. not very clear sorry  :-[

Got even better for return trip tonight (was only 2 degrees C this morning, about 8 on the way home) may have made a difference .. averaged 6.2 LPH on the way home  :D

The i30 taught me to drive economically (and I used the cruise a fair bit)

I know it is not an i30 .. but a few members are inquisitive.. (Well that is my excuse anyway..)

The Toyota styling department aren't exactly adventurous (not as pretty as the i45  :'( )

Can get Sportivo Side Skirts for only about A$230 each (Unpainted including foam spacer)

Quite like the back with LED taillights and the dinky spoiler..

The Hybrid lights have blue reflectors similar to the colour of the car  :D

Interior is a nice place to be...

With Auto Dimming Mirror (Never had one of those before but I know some i30's do)

Like the reversing camera too.. The Audio System is just a little bit better than the SLX one.. Does have bluetooth for playing music wirelessly from your phone and handsfree though...

Closeup (off the net.. The wife took off to her sisters in MY car to show her)

Got a great deal and because it was a demo got 4 x Genuine Mats + Headlight Covers + Style Visors which I wouldn't normally bother with but suit the car .. probably worth another A$250 combined..

Not my style particularly, but I can see why folk would drool over it :D

Surprised that Mr T didn't put the sidelights in the door mirrors.

Thanks Steve.. I'll post a picture of the engine bay in the next day or two a bit messy with both petrol and electric.. Gas struts for the bonnet a nice touch...

and yes.. strange how they didn't put repeaters in the mirrors

Hey Dazz it looks good m8, i saw a few on the road here, i don't think i've ever looked till you got one :).
but i've became a small car man , my m8's son got a new XR6 Turbo Ute 6 speed manuel with all options Momo steering wheel leather seats, got me to drive it today. but i like smaller performance cars as seem to be more fun.
Dazz i drive a new Toyota Hi Ace van 2.7 hate it m8, when you go over a speed hump feels like a bucking horse looks like a fridge on wheels, gets 14L/100k no matter how it's driven but goes ok till u load it up then it's gutless. the turbo Diesel same thing is much better i drove one. but they are reliable and i don't pay to run it.
i would still like to test drive a Suzuki K???? 6 speed manuel, did you test drive the manuel or the auto?

I Drove the Auto.. Reckon you would like the 6 speed Kizashi (The auto was nice enough) It is between the i30 and the camry in size .. what put me off was the apparent real world fuel use of close to 10 LPH .. and the Snub nose styling...

Thanks Interphase  I would have not liked it in my 30's but now 20 years later it is nice to be pampered .. the wife took it for a 40km return trip to her sisters today .. she loved it (wan't to swap her Tiida with me) It ain't going to happen

Toyota are doing it on most of their small & medium cars at 15000 intervals it is designed to cover the first 3 years which is the length of the warranty (60,000 kms)

Not over here.. we only had a minor recall on Prius brakes all the other Toyota issues and recalls were in the US so they may have extended the warranty over there (they are still a top seller over here)

Thanks Mel .. enioying the luxury (done over 2000kms in 2 weeks  :D)

Hi John.. Can't have towbar fitted because of under body shielding to assist with aerodynamics... (a very low .27)

Possibly but don't have a trailer any more .. I'll just put a Tow Bar on the wife's car if we find that we miss it

I'm going to try and look after the new car a bit better than I looked after "Luna"

Unfortunately she came into our life when we started building so we treated her a bit like a work horse... :-[

BTW, Toyotas have a 6 yrs / 160.000 kms guarantee here. "Unfortunately", did never used it in the past 12 years that i own one :P  (P.S. it's a Japan made).

Dazz the towbar i got required the removal of the under bumper wind shield but did not efect economy  that i have noticed. i use the towbar for my push bike rack ( hold the ball, fast on fast off Thule rack ). i think you need one too to get the flab off  if you lower a car it cuts wind resistance a lot.

A few cyclists are skittled each year surprised it is not more.. I used to ride quite a bit but picked safer (wider roads)

Yes, some nice walking tracks about and they are making more...

Did my first mileage test in new car .. used e10 fuel for a change which probably didn't help. Ran her down to 7 kms remaining (brave )

Fuel cover says I can use e10 (although probably won't make a habit of it - usually use Caltex with a fuel voucher but didn't have one with me)

Thought I would see if the 95 octane made any difference to performance (none i could notice)

Did 822.3 kms on 56.08ltrs (same pump to 2nd click) Devonport to Hobart and return 300 kms each way (plus lots of city driving in Hobart) and then Devonport to Burnie and Return 50kms each way plus some other short trips..

Trip computer said 6.5 average when I went to fill her (above figures work out at 6.8  :'() still not bad for e10 in a big car with only about 8000kms on the clock..

Excuse the ducking fusty dash .. I'm off to give her a good clean right now!!!!

Daz,

Is this how you funded your new motor?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-11105220

A man has paid for a van in China with 100,000 yuan ($14,700; £9,500) in pocket change he gathered over years, state television reports.

Mr Zhao, a businessman, dropped bundles of notes, none worth more than one yuan - about $0.15 - at the dealership in Jining, in northern Shandong province.

Extra staff had to be brought in to work shifts to count it all, a clerk at the dealership said.

And I like this bit:

After hours of counting, the staff at the dealership confirmed he had provided exact change

P.S. Got incredible finance deal through Toyota 20k at 1.64%  about A$1264 I think in fees and charges over the 4 year term.. (I can nearly earn that much a year in dividends on the shares I was going to sell  :D)

No.. got it all in writing.. They are advertising 2.9% but that is for small business buyers I think .. turned out to be even less for joe blogs (and me)

Due to the public perception that they need to be plugged in, are new technology and would drive a lot differently to a normal petrol car they are selling a bit slowly so this was a way of increasing sales without butchering the price..

I don't normally use finance but I would have been crazy not to on this occassion.. They did want to know the "ins and outs of a ducks a$$" but happy to oblige for that deal

Dazzler starts searching the internet for 1.64% finance deal on trip to the UK...

I like the idea of travelling to the UK and Italy in particular (although wife is paranoid about terrorists..) and I'm paranoid about spending money with nothing but memories in return..

In the 1800's we Brits exported prisioners to OZ, mainly Tassie and Melbourne..

Now make enquiries and see if you can take up 1 of the return places, which should be FOC, which wasn't claimed.

It is an amazing car to drive.. Drives like a Statesman or a Calais then you look down and see you are still getting 6.4 LPH  I really like the reversing camera and the auto wipers are very clever the way they adjust to the intensity of the rain.. and the Hybrid is so Quiet and rides so well over rough surfaces..

Doesn't have the kick in the back you get with the diesel though... :'(

It doesn't? It must have a really roooomy back seat! I always have that kick when my kids are sitting behind me.

Got a set of Hybrid Decals the other day.. Bit tricky to put on but happy how they look (the Window tint is darker than it looks in this photo too)

Also did a bit of a mock up of something similar for the i30.. Logo didn't come out too clear though  :'(
