Our "other" car is a 2012 Corolla Hatch.
Lovely car, nice to drive and reliable as Toyotas are.
A few weeks ago we got a Recall Notice from Toyota Australia for a fuel pump replacement (it's in the tank).

Got another recall notice today. Thought it was a reminder and the local dealer hadn't updated the paperwork.

But, no.

This is for the airbag.

But the note is just advising there will be a recall when they have the parts (sometime in the 4th quarter of 2017. 

So, let's hope we don't need the airbag any time in the next 6 months.   

Just fitted new tyres yesterday, too.

Is the airbag issue due to fragments firing out and potentially causing injury?

Yeah.
It's the Takata issue.
I'm amazed they're going to take so long. It's not like they just became aware of it.
Probably leaving themselves wide open with the delay.

They describe what could happen but don't say anything about not driving the car. Imagine a few 10s of thousands of Toyota drivers having to leave their daily drives in the garage?

I was thinking more along the lines of an 86.

Yeah, woman in the NT was seriously injured this year from an Air Bag. I thought this issue was picked some time ago?

Obvious issue is it would be world wide, multi manufacturer so someone has to produce for current demand plus however far back.

They must feel having the bag deploy is a lower risk with fragments than no bag at all.

Dorian told me to check the vin on Nateah's 2010 Civic (His wife has an Accord)  and the Passenger side airbag has an outstanding recall. Nateah often sits in the passenger seat when her BF drives her car.

I contacted Honda on her behalf and they got back to her very quickly. Said Launceston Honda would be in touch in a day or two. No contact after a week, so I rang them. Busy, going to ring back.. never did! So I reported them to Honda Australia. They are now chasing it up...

The letter specifically mentions the passenger side airbag.
