 This is the moment a landmark 200-metre chimney became nothing more than a cloud of dust.

I recall Fred Dibnah demolishing chimneys the old way - with pit props and burning scrap wood and old tyres. He was usually just as accurate and the process was more exciting.

Sorry, I'm back now! Went off to google Fred Dibnah and "people also searched for Peter Kay" came up 

So of course I had to search for him too (thought he might have died or sumpthink) but no all good there ...

Anyway, after watching half a dozen of his You tube vids and changing my undies ... I'm back ...

Eehh lad, it's about ten years ago last time I spoke to Fred.  It was at Manchester science and industry museum.  I'd just been in the lav and washed me hands and and he shouted down from is steam traction engine 'Oi, just unhook that chain for us will ya'  A said 'ave just washed me bloody hands Fred'...   Oh go on, just unhook it for us, so I did and off he chugged down Deansgate.  What a grand fella, clever, talented and totally unaffected by success.

I have loads of the CDs and occasionally watch them again.

Aye lad aye.....  he didn't have long.  He kept up is traction engine pastime as long as he could tho.  He wasn't the sorta chap to turn his face to the wall and await the inevitable. <sigh>
