Footage of a strange object appearing to fly past a plane has led to a frenzy of speculation among UFO enthusiasts.

A mysterious object has been captured on camera flying past a Virgin Atlantic plane.

An amateur filmmaker and UFO enthusiast took the video above, which shows the strange object appearing to overtake the flight during take-off from New York JFK airport.

The object appears behind the plane's tail before accelerating and passing the plane at high speed.

It does seem to be behind the plane on film. Strange how the shape seems to increase and decrease in length like a rectangle spinning.
Very close to an airport though. Highly populated and always eyes on the sky.
