I’ve upgraded my iPhone to an 11 Pro and I’m having difficulties with CarPlay.  Just won’t connect.  If it does, the phone list is massive (if that makes sense) or there’s just a black screen.  When I listen to the radio, it’ll just intermittently flicker to CarPlay.

I’m not due for a service for several months.

Suggestions until then?

Did your pre-upgrade iPhone connect ok?

Are you using an original cable?

There's quite some chatter on the intercube about iPhone 11 and CarPlay

Found a solution here. Please buy a USB male to type c female converter. Use that to connect with the type c lightening cable comes with the iPhone 11. It works immediately when I plug in.

All new-generation iPhones seem to be affected, including iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and the top-of-the-range iPhone 11 Pro Max.

But what does the magic, however, is a pretty weird workaround.

If the iPhone isn’t detected when you connect it to the car, just try to charge the smartphone to 100 percent and then reconnect it to the vehicle. By the looks of things, as soon as the iPhone battery drops below 95 percent, the device no longer launches Apple CarPlay for a reason that’s yet to be determined.

So technically, what you need to do is make sure that the iPhone 11 battery level is above 95 percent when you connect it to the car – if it’s not, plug it in, give it some time to charge, and then reconnect it.

Genuine cable is highly recommended if not already using :undecided:

Check Settings - General - CarPlay on the phone and make sure the vehicle has been registered and that Allow CarPlay While Locked is turned on.

Yes had no issues with my previous iPhone (6S).

Yes legit cable.

Bluetooth connection works, so I can use the steering wheel buttons to dial/answer, just when I connect cable (I only use it to charge), nada.  Then it'll just intermittently try to connect.

Music does "connect" but there is no volume and I can't change tracks.

This is what I get when I connect the phone: :link: Carplay ? ImgBB

Do you happen to have the phones zoom feature turned on? Settings- Display & Brightness - View.

Nope, set to default size.

Are you able to test it in another vehicle at all? I have an earlier GD model which sync’s fine with an iPhone 11, just wondering if it’s later model stereo firmware issue or a scaling problem on the 11 Pro :undecided:

Nope, sister's car isn't that fancy schmancy, only has bluetooth, no CarPlay/Android.

Would you happen to have the genuine cable from an earlier phone to try? I've read something about Apple changing the pin out on the iPhone 11 port though I can't confirm this with Apple, might be worth a try if you've got an older cable (USB A) still lying around, or a different converter for the 11's cable from female C to male A as mentioned in Shambles reply.

If none of that helps I'm out of ideas sorry, might have to lodge the issue with Apple support.

I've tried genuine (the one that came with my 11, plus the old 6S one) and non-genuine cables and made no difference.

Been a while but dunno when, but ended up working without issues.  CarPlay face also upgraded with recent iOS upgrade too.
