A common reason for a computer monitor to gradually lose its brilliance at the very bottom of the screen is the cumulative result of deleting text.

When you highlight text and hit the delete key - the unwanted letters fall to the bottom of the screen - so fast that you are not able to see it happen. Flat and continuous letters like the letter I and O are not too much of a problem because they pile up in a microscopically thin layer and it takes years before the effect shows. However -  letters like K, M and W can create big problems - because by virtue of their convoluted shape they get tangled up and more quickly build into a pile.

The recommendation is to use the edit menu and delete from there so the letters go into the recycle or waste bin and can be flushed away.

I'm not so sure, Alan.
I've heard that these newfangled elektrickery things don't like being flushed.
I hit one with a hose to blast the dust out of the vents and it didn't take too kindly to it.

You could cut-and-paste the unwanted text into a paint program then use the eraser tool.

... or switch the font colour to the same as the background. Then you can fill the screen evenly with text and it will never cause bottlenecks. With old CRT monitors we used to deGauss the screens precisely to remove the deleted text.

Alan, we take your posts "extremely seriously".
(but that often used phrase seems to have lost credibility over recent years)
