2013 would be a GD.

Is your handbrake a lever or electronic?

GD handbrake is part of the caliper and doesnt really have adjustment. Only place is the cable under your centre console.

If its electric handbrake you need to retract and reactivate the handbrake via scan tool before and after pad change or else you will damage the calipers.

I assume you have already driven the vehicle, pumped the pedal up? Why were you doing rear pads on a 2013, heaps of km's?

Hi Ya. Its got a normal hand brake (not electronic) . The car has done 60,000 miles and the rear pads had worn out so i had to replace them. i replaced them yesterday no problem , But now the handbrake leaver pulls all the way up!!. So i assume that i will have to adjust the handbrake . I cant seem to find advice anywhere how to do this .  Please help me.

Thanks

Original body shape is FD. Update is GD.
Removing the fabric bottom in the centre armrest will reveal an adjustment ratchet. :victory:

Hi.

Thanks again , is it quite easy to adjust the handbrake via the ratchet?. Do i need any special tools or anything , or just a spanner?

Simply typing "Hyundai i30 Handbrake adjustment" gives plenty of hits, a search of the forum provides some more :)

What does "GD" mean?
GD is the series two shape . Which yours would be.

So basically what Tim is saying is you will have to adjust the cable under the centre console.

you should get a 12 mm ratchet spanner.
I tried to do it with a normal 12 mm spanner and it takes a very long time as you can rotate the nut only very little each time.

Don't go crazy adjusting the cable. Its supposed to have some slack when handbrake is off. If you adjust the cable too far it will cause dramas.

You really shouldn't have needed to adjust the handbrake at all. Once you have pumped the pedal to push the caliper pistons back out it should be right, self adjusting.
My concern is the piston may not have been pushed in properly and handbrake part of caliper is damaged.
If you adjust the cable under the console and find that there is no slack with handbrake off there is a problem with a caliper.
