Title: FD Hatch Roof Racks
Post by: ryangus on January 11, 2017, 22:22:14
Any recommendations on roof racks?  The wife wants to carry her inflatable SUP (only 14kg).  Quite a few cheap options on eBay, but not sure of the quality.

Because off the way they mount, my advice is to stick with a known brand.  Ii have ROLA but they're not cheap.
Go have a talk to Supercheap Autos.  They have a brand, I think Prorack, maybe out of NZ which are pretty good. Sometimes they have 20% off sales..

Managed to find 4 of these - :link: Vortex RSS Black 2 Bar Roof Rack | Rhino-Rack (http://www.rhinorack.com.au/products/roof-rack-parts/complete-roof-racks/vortex-rss-black-2-bar-roof-rack_rss156) - new for $300 delivered on eBay.  Best looking racks I could find I reckon.

Look good.
Rhino used to be a bit bulkier (and more wind noise). They seem to have copied the ROLA layout which is fine.
The only thing is, they look like they're designed for the tracks on a FD wagon. The Hatch just has 4 tiny little plastic covers in the roof where the pads attach with a screw. Are you sure they're right for your car?

In the description (scroll down to fits vehicle) it says they're for "HYUNDAI i30 FD 5dr Hatch 10/07 to 04/12"

Yeah. I didn't go that far. I stopped at the pic plus their comment that the track wasn't included.
