Hey all,

So the old girls just clocked over 65k on the odo. At my last service (50k) Hyundai gave me bottle of fuel injector cleaner to add to my next full tank of petrol. I completey forgot about it and have only just ran it through the engine, during a 5 hour drive to Melbourne.

From what I've read online it seems like it's not really necessary to use injector cleaner if you use 98 octane fuel regularly. I use nothing but 98 in my i30, mainly because it includes the cleaners.

I'm currently in Wagga, about to drive back to Sydney (5 hr highway driving) and was wondering if it could be beneficial to run another bottle of cleaner to the thank? Just thought it could be a good opportunity to do it on the way back as I won't be doing any more long drives till the end of the year. From what I've read it seems that the cleaner works better when the engine is keep hot for longer intervals.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance  :goodjob2:

I think you can use too much of this stuff. Using 98 and already running one bottle through, I definitely wouldn't recommend doing another. You sort of answered your own question earlier in the post. NIce to hear from you by the way. Enjoy your drive and have a safe one.  :victory:

Wow, expensive motoring.  I use 91 or E10 (95) octane . Seems to go fine, wife's at 120,000 Km and injectors are clean. Years ago I did comparative mileage runs with a family car for all including 98. Could find little if any power and mileage advantage, just a thinner wallet due to high octane price.

With a high performance motor you will no doubt see a benefit.

Totally unnecessary using injector cleaner if already running 98.

98 has higher concentrations of cleaning additives compared to 95 though with an engine not tuned for 98 you see little difference and will probably get the same result with 95.

I agree with the above posts.
Not required.
But I use it and havens one for as long as I've had efi cars. But I only use 91,  so a bottle of cleaner every few months makes sense.

Thanks for the replies guys :)

I'll hold off on the cleaner. The car does seem to run a bit smoother since doing the clean, but it's probably all in my head  :crazy1:

I forgot you were in Wagga wagga!  I've been through there several times on road trips! I should have tracked you down!

Yep, Wagga boy here. I'm living in Sydney now though because of Uni. Just visiting family while on break.
