Title: Removing Headlights to Install New Bulbs
Post by: jfdelacruz on May 18, 2013, 14:20:10
Hi Everyone,

I don't post often and just mainly read about anything in this forum (I like it a lot!). Anyway, I wanted to replace my low-beam bulbs (H7) with Philips XtremeVision (+100%) and searched around this forum to get some initial information. What I've found is that my car's layout is generally very different from most of your cars. Bear in mind that I've got a 2011 CRDi 1.6 6-Spd. (See attached link at the bottom).

Most of you on hear are able to replace the bulbs without taking the headlight assembly out off the car but I've had a thorough look on my car and it seems that there is no way for me to replace the bulbs without taking the assembly off of the car. I am very afraid to take the headlight assembly out because of scratching the paint AND getting it back into proper position (aligned panel gaps, aligned headlights, anything that has to do with alignment).

Could you guys offer some suggestions on how to "attack" this so I am able to change the bulbs without taking the headlight assembly out. I have a complete set of tools (don't worry, I've got them) and I am fairly experienced with DIY work.

believe me I have two 2011's and you can not replace the bulbs without taking the headlight assemblies out, once you disconnect the wiring and remove the three fastening bolts from the light assembly, the assembly can be gently coaxed out of it's position, a lot more care is required to place it back in,but it can be done,my owner handbook has a good explanation of how to do this operation, there is a few good tutorials on here to under globe replacement, just doa search and you'll find it.
