Title: my assessment of i30 n-line dct
Post by: asdetail on July 28, 2019, 07:59:12
Hi to everyone, i have only recently joined the forum and this is my first post, so i thought i'd start with a review of my 2 month old i30 n-line dct.

There are only a couple of negatives with this vehicle so i will start with the good stuff!.

performance & handling: both are excellent for a car at this  price point, refined powerful turbocharged engine with more than enough shove for any situation with roadholding to match the performance.

The 7 speed dct is better than a lot of reviews would have you believe it changes smoothly and the shift programming seems spot on, especially in sport mode where the changes are lightning quick, yes you know you are not driving a conventional torque converter auto as it is a bit on and off digital at low speed but, in my opinion, as good as the VW golf/polo version, so top marks to hyundai.

As for the interior, excellent seating, good all-round visibility practical instrument layout and all controls fall to hand easily, lane keep assist and radar cruise also work very well in fact somewhat better than the kia cerato gt i tested before the i30,which also was too hard in the ride for my tastes.

Now for the negatives.

The infotainment system is nice and easy to use, however the reverse camera is to low-res and absolutely crap at night!, no voice control unless with smartphone connected, and no handling of text messages whatsoever, which puts it a long way behind the ford sync 3 system in our other car an LZ focus sport.

Road noise. is it just me or does the n-line have too much road noise intrusion into the cabin, i blame the michelin pilot sport tyres, however i think in an effort to cut costs hyundai may have skimped on underbody insulation in this vehicle as our focus is a much quieter vehicle on coarse chip bitumen roads which seem so common in australia, other owners may have a different opinion on this so i would welcome any feedback.

Anyway that's my 2 cents worth on the i30 n line, still loving the performance it has, however not sure whether to change out the tires or get some dynamatting fitted :winker:

Nice review! I get my i30 next month but when I tested the i30 overnight, I hooked up my phone and was able to have sms read out to me with android auto no problem. The reversing camera is not amazing but better than a lot of others out there! For the Asian cars, the Subaru was the best I tested.

Welcome thanks for the feedback. Yes, for some reason the reversing camera is worse than some previous versions  :crazy1:

On a positive note, if you upgrade the globes in the reverse lights to LED as per another thread it does improve the reverse camera vision at night quite a bit.

As Mutley says I can get messages to work through android auto when it is behaving itself.

Welcome and thanks for the review ..

Yes, I would agree that there's a fair amount of road noise on coarse bitumen. It occasionally bugs me however you do get used to it. Dynamatting the whole car would certainly add weight, unless you would find some choice spots to apply a minimal amount [wheel arches?]

What colour did you end up with?

Adz.

Hi there.

I too had an LZ Focus and found Sync 3 generally better, the audio was also better despite being a Trend and the noise noticeably better suppressed than 2018 i30, and that was with Pilot Sport 4 tyres on the Focus.

I remember when the LZ update came out reviewers commented that it was one of the quietest in its class with triple door seals as well as better glazed glass and so forth. I suspect the doors also had more sound deadening as they felt appreciably more solid. It's funny, when the LZ came out reviewers actually tested cabin noise with the ratings, which I no longer see.

Suffice it to say I share your sentiments, though I don't think the tyres should be blamed and the Michelins are some of the best street tyres you can get.The i30 does have a better underbody coating compared to the Focus. I suspect some selective use of sound deadening might be in order. It's a shame the i30 is already a tad overweight.

Anyway, welcome to the forums, and in spite of my above comments I do really like my i30 (I just also miss my Focus haha).

Thank You for all  the feedback people, some very useful tips there, will definitely try some led globes in the reverse lights, if i can figure out where to to get them, have not tried android auto yet, someday maybe!.

The colour i got was "fluidic metal", these n-lines seemed hard to track down here in QLD, had to go through a few dealers before i got the deal i wanted,30k with mats and tint, not sure if i could have done better but time was limited for me

There is plenty of info about the LED bulbs for reversing and other locations in this thread..

Not a fan of grey metallics normally (worry about blending in with the road) however with the advent of DRLs, less of an issue now and "Fluidic Metal" really shows off the lines of the PD.  :goodjob2: :goodjob:

When I got mine there dealership said at the time that there were only 6 in the country of the Premium trim. Hence why I jumped on mine rather than waiting and having to re-order. Great choice in colour though.
