Removal of the head unit should still be the same, just skip any info related to the storage compartment.

A photograph would be really handy to see what we're dealing with.

Is this a European Market Vehicle ?

It would appear instead of the storage compartment , there should be a blank cover that snaps into the same space. I'm thinking this needs to be pried out or popped out.

That should then reveal the same void and the same removal steps from there being a large self tapper towards the rear top, then the rest snaps out.

I'll see if my googling still works for some images.

Image of yours (maybe)? You can see that square panel on top is an insert. EDIT: could be screwed, still looking.

I don't think the top blank just clips in unfortunately. Be nice if it did, but seem to recall from a long time ago that it wasn't that easy to lever it out without damage.  :undecided:

This should be what you have? Still trying to guess, maybe the blank is two pieces, the top half snaps into the base , and the base is screw in like the compartment is needing the screws removed?

Thanks for your efforts so far. The picture of the part sort of confirms what I thought (screwed in place from below!

I have a feeling the Euro stereo can be removed by clipping out the front fascia which allows access to the mounting screws.  :undecided:

Yeah, I'm at a loss now, unless it's just clipped and pulls out but I know ours is screwed at the rear once that compartment is out. Parts image not terribly helpful either, and manual shows only the compartment version.

Yeah, Dazz. Many of the threats I was flagging in AFG were sticky. Magnetically attached IEDs trying to blow up my Coalition buddies while they drove around doing their patrols. You have such a way with words.
