I complained at my first month service and they claimed it was rectified by tightening some terminals. Issue was still present and took the car in again, and they couldn't replicate the issue. Brought it in again the following week as instructed and still no luck with them reproducing the issue. They said there's nothing they can do and to report to Hyundai Australia. Hyundai Australia have now taken on the case and my car has been in the dealership for 2 weeks with no solution proposed.

Not sure if they are really testing the car and if they are reproducing the same conditions the ignition issue occurs. Told them repeatedly it was warm starts causing the issue but when I asked how they tested the car, they said they drove it for 30 mins, then restarted the car with no issues. Asked did they turn it off to for a break, answer was doesn't  look like it. To me that would be a hot start and  missing a clear condition I have repeatedly pointed out of needing the car to be turned off for about an hour before restarting.

Welcome. Sorry to hear this. Some dealerships have no idea. You are obviously dealing with one of those!  :crazy1: :disapp:

I know sales departments get frustrated with service departments that are like this because they jeopardise future/repeat sales.  :fum:

Thanks for the report PrancingHippo

As with those that came before you, I've split it out of the original thread and placed it on our portal page for greater exposure to our friend Googs :D

I had the same warm start issue with my car. (you will see my thread in the forum) ...I feel your frustration.

After no real joy from Hyundai HO ( basically I was told to go away), I complained via the editor of a motoring magazine. Next day The car was rebooked in at my dealer to have a d-Logger attached. When the dealer attached the d-logger, they managed to replicate the warm start fault. I replicated the fault on the d-logger a further 5 times over the next 3 days. Data sent back to Hyundai and they put it down to faulty injectors. Apparently the issue also affects the Veloster. Hyundai are (as of June) aware of a handful of warm start cases.

With my car ,they replaced the fuel injectors and I haven't had that warm start issue since.

The dealers really don't know where to start looking. If the car produces a fault code then the dealers have an idea of what to do. When no fault code is produced, they don't know where to turn. Hyundai HO are useless.

Unfortunately it seems with Hyundai, you have to shout and keep shouting until something is done.

If your dealership still hasn't got a clue or can't replicate, perhaps they could speak with Sacha Dawson and Alto Artarmon.

Thanks Beardyboy. Which dealership is Sacha Dawson and Alto Artarmon at so I can pass on the details.

UPDATE: Hyundai is fitting a data logger to my car. Unfortunately due to personal circumstances, I won't be driving my car much at all so the dealer has agreed to keep the car and drive it with the data logger.

UPDATE: Car dealer requested the loan car back and they haven't been able to reproduce the issue. I collected my car today and managed to get it to occur twice already.

Here is a normal start

And this is a recording of one of the car struggling to start

I will call up the dealership tomorrow and see if I can speak to the technician who has been calling me about the issue.

Would be interesting if they  provide details of what they actually did with times, car left out in open or in garage, cold pr warm engine etc then compare to when and how you start the car.

Can’t see that I responded to this.... apologies if I haven’t. Sacha Dawson is one of the Service managers at Alto Hyundai in artarmon NSW. Craig Salthouse is a manager at the Hyundai Customer Care centre that should be aware of the “ Hard to start” issues. There is a software update available.... but my i30 hasn’t repeated the warm start issue since they replaced the fuel injectors in July... they did upload the software update 2 weeks ago to resolve the rough idling that’s slowly gotten worse over the months.... it didn’t work. I too now have the d- logger back in the car to record the lumpy idling. Now waiting on Hyundai technical to have its next brainwave to find a fix. Chasing the dealer and or Hyundai customer care regularly seems to be the only way to get the slightest of movement.
I think the reason why there’s a 5 year warranty is because it takes that long to get a fault fixed😂
As for what the dealers actually test when they have the car, who knows.... but I doubt my car has seen a spanner etc when it was in for a week recently

Thanks. Well my car got a new fuel injector too. Apparently one of them was leaking. So far no warm start issues. Not sure if they updated the ECU. However, since we got the car back the navigation unit reboots whilst driving sometimes....so back to the dealership again.

Crazy how mine is doing the same thing and Hyundai are saying the exact same things as you have described...…
