Wait for it: 2781km! Average speed (including stops/charging) of 115kph.

:link: Tesla YouTuber Bjørn Nyland breaks 24-hour electric car distance record ? 2,781km - Electrek

I don't think I would want to drive that far in a single day in any car.

Thanks Xiziz, That was interesting.

We are starting to get a better charging network  here in Tassie but well behind Europe or the USA I suspect. Pure electric cars are still very scarce here (probably see one a week if I'm lucky)

Hybrid is still a better compromise for me.

Yeah, that was done in Germany which probably has one of the best charging networks combined with a very good motorway network. Just thought it was interesting and wanted to share. :)

Paradoxially the charging network is needed for mass adoption, but unless govt/car makers subsidize, the demand needs to be there for private actors to affird building the networks. A little catch 22.

One year ago I would have needed a tesla to make BEV work for me for lack of chargers, but its changing really fast.

As far as I know absolutely no incentives in Australia to buy an electric car (subsidies etc..)

Some of the automobile associations have been lobbying for charging points and the Tasmanian Government has made grants available to certain groups to help with the cost of charging stations.

RACT has bought some electric cars and installed a charging station or two. So things are slowly moving in the right direction.  :goodjob:

No incentives, not even dropping the GST or full novation for leases.

I believe they will be forced on us by car makers rather than Australia being a leader.

No incentives,  no forward thinking or planning, no interest by any state, territory  or federal  gov. Seems that the electric car charging problem will be partially  done by individuals similar to roof top solar.
Here's a thought
Would it be possible for those that get ele cars, to make the home chargers available to public to use ? .
Would require card /password access to track / bill users .
Units would need to be outside.

I'm an old cynic. I think the UK government are dragging their feet because we lack enough electricity generating capacity to cater for a surge in the number of electric cars.

That could actually be a consideration over here too. Some of the larger States struggle for capacity at times...

You having a laugh?  The current excise tariff on refined fuel is 67% - our "government" doesn't want to lose that.
