G'Day mates!

Recently I got my battery flat all of a sudden.
After roadside assistance rescued me it turned out that front passenger's door wasn't shut tightly.
A mechanic told me that this is a root cause of my battery got flat.
I was surprised with that discovery because I thought if anything left open like any door, hood or trunk are left opened and one tries to lock a car with remote key a car would start beeping.
I did a couple of test leaving front\back passenger's door open (or not tight enough closed) and didn't get any signals produced by my car.

Is it normal for Hyundai i30?

Yes.

The signal that something is wrong is the no signal. You get one long flash of the indicators on lock. I presume you can hear the door locks activate?

Next time you try it, after lock, push the offending door closed, you will then get the all lock flashed and the car will be  deadlocked and armed.

Edit: just noticed you have GD, I presume it will have similar sequence, not sure if they had deadlock as a feature though.

The series 3 (PD) does make a beep if you try to lock it with a door ajar, we think my wife's 2014 Euro built GD Tourer didn't make a noise but it wouldn't lock if one door was ajar...
