Although happy with the quality of the Audio in my SR (for a basic 6 speaker system) I've noticed that they mention a premium audio with 7 speakers (including a subwoofer in one side of the boot cavity) in videos for the 2018 Elantra GT Sport (same as our SR)

Be interested to know if we have the wiring and mounting for it and what the specs of the speaker are.

Not sure where to start to investigate this and whether our head unit will drive a 7th speaker.

Try the dealer where you got the car from Dazz, if no luck I'm  sure if you go to a car audio specialist,  they'll get it sorted with an amp & sub for a few  hundred  $$$$ , probably cheaper than getting it via Hyundai & getting them to install it.

I was thinking of someone younger and more motivated than me having a sticky behind the boot lining...  :winker:

No doubt Auto Addiction would cost more than I (or Gonz) would be prepared to pay. :whistler:

I will do some more online research in the hope to find more detail in the mean time.

I doubt the local Dealer will have any idea.

Finding younger  would not really be problem,  but i doubt the more motivated part.

This comes from a fairly comprehensive US review...

:link: 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT Review - Top Speed

"The floor of the cargo area sits lower in the body for additional space while the sides are free of any storage pockets. A rear deck hangs from the rear hatch to help block sight of what might be stashed in the boot while parked, but this can be removed easily if needed. A single subwoofer resides on the left side of the boot and distributes decent sound without disturbing the trim or that hanging rear deck."

Interesting comment about side storage pockets because the Aussie model does have a pocket on either side...

It appears they get a Harmon (Kardon) - Infinity stereo system in the US in the Elantra and the Elantra GT as per this video...

The plot thickens (different lining in boot of US Elantra GT - see speaker grill on left)

Head unit and menus look the same though??

@Dazzler, come on be a devil.     Rip the lining off the left side and see if there are any spare wires taped to the bodywork for a subwoofer.

On my daughters i30, I found wires inside the door cavity for rear speakers in her polity pack Active.  Made fitting rear speakers a breeze.

I'll install my new mudflaps first then see how easy it is to remove the trim... Depends on my job list from the boss tomorrow..  :winker:

@Dazzler, I'd like some pics of the mud flaps and a report on how the install goes.  Thinking of fitting some myself.

Just add that to the top of your list.

Thanks,
Bob

:crazy1: Not the mudflaps! Mine are gathering dust. Mudflaps are temporary tiny bits of unimpressive plastic awaiting the full glory of the body kit! :victory:

As for the subwoofer, start planning your plywood panel construction project with matching upholstery now. We await your pictorial how-to soon. :happydance:

Not a great spot for a subwoofer in a hatch imo, aside from the typical boom that gets released though the rear quarter panel the parcel shelf tends to vibrate in hatch's and the bass would be muffled considerably back there.

I wonder how much room is under the rear seat :undecided: perfect spot for a bass tube if it'll fit or a small box setup and ported out under the front of the rear seat.

Should be easy Bob. But will do. I will use a Z screw driver like I did with Trish's tourer. You just take out the existing screws and one plug thingy and replace with the larger headed ones supplied.

I don't expect a huge difference with the mudflaps but will hopefully reduce the chance of stones flicking up and chipping the paint and a bit of muck as well..

With regards to the Sub Woofer. I doubt I will bother, but started the subject for the benefit of other PD (younger) owners who may want such a thing.

You seem like a good fella. If you do that I'll make you Romanian member of the month.  :snigger:

It may not be conclusive though as I assume yours is Euro built whereas mine is Korean (like the Elantra GT)

Hehe!
I have some ideas about doing improvements to my car and a subwoofer sounds like a good idea if the wires are there already.

Yes, you're right. Mine is built in Czech Republic.

Made the leap this morning, now with a better head unit I'm going to get Alberts to install one of the new Morel Maximo/Maximus speaker setups, 6.5" splits - crossovers in the front and 6.5 coaxial's for the rear they've done a few recently and are impressed with them as was I when listening in the show room :)

These head units output 50w per chanel (avg 17w RMS) which is perfect for the efficiency range so I wont have to outlay for the cost of an amp/wiring/labour, the Morels are estimated up to 3 x the output of the standard speakers with nice clarity and decent punch for a simple speaker upgrade alone.

I'll wait till I hear it up and running in the car before I decide if I want a sub, if needed one of the Alpine under seat units with built in amp will do me.

Had the speakers done this morning and cant believe the sound difference  so much more detail to be heard that I had forgotten some songs had particular instruments you just don't hear with the standard speakers, cranking it up doesn't sound like plain old noise anymore :yahoo:

I should make a fortune on ebay with the top notch factory ones  :winker:

Dazz, that's quite cheap for good speakers, I'm lucky to get away with it for that price after they realised the amount of work involved to access the rear speakers on a 3dr :crazy1:

I was thinking I might upgrade my speakers in the PD at some stage but I was thinking like $400 would get a good set.

Me, a cheapskate?  As if!

If you were to install it yourself you'll knock a couple hundred off, but if you want the better custom mounts/spacers used and warranty it's worth doing right :goodjob2:

With my back there's no way I'd want to do it myself either :)

There is actually a benefit to my hearing loss. I probably wouldn't hear the improved range much.

My Bose speakers in the Calais were obviously better than the speakers in the PD, but with my hearing I don't notice a huge difference.

Volume is down a bit though.

:blubber: front right speaker started to crackle & pop on way home tonight. Volume at 23 with podcast. Seriously Hyundai I had this PD SR for 7 weeks, and been working away for 3 of them.  :crazy1:
I will be number one on Hyundai Warranty claim hotline  :phone1: at this rate in 5 years that will be 60 speakers.
Maybe already time to upgrade the shit speakers to something decent like CraigB installed
