Title: Is this a warranty claim?
Post by: Barbarulo on September 14, 2018, 12:14:51
So this happened... was at the Magic Hands Car Wash because I didn't want an automatic carwash scratching the duco on my brand new wheels. I guess the kid washing my car didn't know his own strength. They showed me the video - he's gone to open the back passenger side door and the whole handle has flown off. It doesn't appear to be undue force. (I've asked for a copy of the video if possible). The actual handle is fine, it's the plastic part at the back that's snapped (all parts retained, the break is clearly visible).

Is this likely to be a warranty claim because IMO it shouldn't have happened.

I'd be expecting a warranty replacement.

The same problem has been reported by members of the KIA Niro forum. No-one has yet reported back that a warranty claim was accepted

Warranty claim. Hopefully garage will back you up. I bought my blue SR from WildWest in north Perth, but use John Hughes for servicing, and they have been really good with past warranty work with my old Veloster

John Hughes were the mob that couldn't diagnose Doggie's steering fault then scratched and dented his car in the process and wouldn't admit to the damage  :disapp: same reason I no longer use Rockingham Hyundai.

Sadly it's a lottery with Hyundai garages in Perth.
John Hughes have been good for warranty work for my old car. AC compressor was noisy & replaced ($3K) . Had bad experiences at Wild West & Mandurah

So, I would think the CCTV would be very important in securing the warranty claim.

The first thing they will try to do is go the 'excessive force' or 'accident damage' route.

When the radiator went on the FD they tried every question under the sun to try to make it some sort of accident damage:

Owned the car since new? Yes.

Any front end damage? Never

What you never even bumped anything? No

At this point I cut old mate off with accident damage/repairs are easy to spot, there are experts who can rule either way, I would think most of your senior mechanics could spot a repair if they put their mind to it, obviously the cant so....

At that point old mate said, no mate its ok I just have to ask..... Sure you do.

Because I was actually behind the wheel with my latest damage, I got the third degree from the claims department.

How much alcohol had you had in the 24 hours before the event? - none.

How many drugs had you had in the 24 hours before the event? - Plenty! I had to list and try and spell all my meds!

Do any of these meds warn about operating machinery? - Fortunately not!

Anyone think I backed into him!  :crazy1:

I got none of that.

Thanks sir, from what you have told me it is not your fault so you won't have to pay an excess. Can you tell me where your car is.

Job done.

Quick update. Took it into Morley Hyundai today (where I bought it from). Explained what had happened. They've accepted it as a warranty claim no questions. Pretty happy. End of next week with the 1500km service, I hope.

Thought they would as i had similar on my Accent as the drivers door handle broke just like yours.

It was the plastic stopper which at the time told is subjected to stress due to the constant hitting against door frame/fittings.
