Hello hope you are well

I have a 2009 manual petrol i30

During lockdown the car was sitting for a few weeks and it seemed run out of battery. After successfully jumping the car and charging the battery (both with a looong drive and an overnight on a battery charger) now she wont start at all just turning over slowly.

The lights inside work as do the headlights so im guessing that the battery has charged. On the dash the esp off light is illuminated as is one of a car with a key inside.

Any help to get the car starting again would be amazing.

Thabk you

How old is the battery? Sounds like you need a new one. Older batteries often will not recover from draining empty. Might want to jump start it and drive it to a shop which can run battery test for you.

When you turn the key does it make a clicking noise?

If so, then battery is dud.

But if you can get to garage or place that can test batteries get then to do a 'drop test' and that will give you a definitive answer.

If you jump start it will it start?  If so probably still a battery issue.

If you keep the headlights on, do they go much dimmer when the starter motor engages?

Actually, mine (GD) switches off the headlights when the starter motor engages :head_knock: so maybe you could try this with the interior light on instead?

Most likely to be the battery if it's the original one from 2009.

When system voltage drops, modern cars start to shut down non essential electrical stuff. ABS, ESP etc. often start to shut down (and illuminate error light). Different control units have different minimum voltage. It is also good to save electricity to mandatory stuff, not to leave you stranded. You still might be able to limp home without ESP and ABS... Many ESP and ABS faults are due low battery voltage.
