Wondering if anyone has had a similar issue? i bought a 2014 Hyundai i30 in August last year it had done 22,000 miles, i've been having issues with the clutch since August and it has just started slipping, called a local Hyundai specialist garage who's work doesn't affect the warranty, my thinking was i needed a new clutch which is surprising at 28,000 miles, took it in today and the clutch is contaminated with oil he told me this should be covered under the warranty as it's a manufacture fault, i have called a Hyundai garage who are telling me i have to authorise £360 to strip the gearbox and if they think it's driver error i have to pay for the oil leak and a new clutch on top of the £360, also if the leak is a manufacture issue but they deem that the clutch is worn i would still have to pay for the clutch, i paid £150 for the work that was done this morning the garage have taken pics of the clutch and faulty seal.

:welcum: Not good (stating the obvious) Are there any other Hyundai dealers nearby? Certainly sounds like this one is playing hardball.

Clutch problems are always a tricky one under warranty as they can be subject to abuse and could be considered a wear and tear item in a 2+ year old car. Not saying that in this case.

The dealer is in a difficult position as well, because they could spend many hours trying to fix/ diagnose the problem and end up having any claim for reimbursement knocked back by Hyundai.

On the other hand they should at least attempt to be understanding and supportive while they work with you to address the problem. Some empathy wouldn't go astray.

So it's a transmission input shaft leak not rear engine main seal leak?

To be honest I'm not entirely sure what it is, I thought I just needed a new clutch but the mechanic says different, he did show me pics of the clutch with all the oil, the Hyundai dealer said something about the gearbox needing to be stripped, I called Hyundai head office to see if they had heard of a fault with this, at first she said no then she said there had been cases of oil leaking into the clutch but it didn't mean mine was the same as others, I'm just thinking if mines out there on its own then the warranty probably won't cover it, I think I'm probably looking at £1000 not including what I spent today from what the dealer was saying.

After calling 3 main dealers today I did find one that was really helpful and it's going in tomorrow morning, I'll post an update when I know what's going on, keeping my fingers crossed that it's covered by the warranty.

Hopefully my suggestion to try other dealers pays off... They need to consider their bottom line, but also try and help the customer as much as possible.

As the clutch itself doesn't contain oil it will always be collateral damage if there's oil on the clutch, hence a warranty case.
The oil, if nothing visible before removing the gearbox, can only come from 3 places:
1. Engine oil, from the crank shaft seal.
2. Gear oil, from the main shaft seal.
3. Brake fluid, from the hydraulic used to engage the clutch bearing.

Just to add another voice to all members above who are all on the money. It seems your mechanic has found a bad oil seal on the gearbox input shaft. Fairly easy to diagnose accurately.   Its not a common fault, but it happens; and there is no way a dealer can deem an internal oil seal a driver fault.
At 28,000 miles, the clutch plate would normally have plenty of life in it. So there should be no cost (parts or labour) to you when it is replaced.
Good luck

Hello all, thank you for your replies, just to give you an update, i took the car to Johnsons Hyundai in Coventry on Wednesday morning and the service has been absolutely amazing, the problem was a faulty inlet seal from the gearbox, as someone had suggested. Seal and clutch replaced under the warranty, my faith has been restored i was expecting a battle after my first 2 conversations with Hyundai garages in Leicester, it was a straight forward if there's a seal at fault all the repairs will be covered under the warranty, i will certainly be travelling the extra few miles for any servicing or problems in the future, they even cleaned my car inside and out  :D

Very relieved, after speaking to the first 2 garages and also Head office i wasn't very confident that it would be done under the warranty, the dealer at Coventry said straight away if a seal was at fault it would be done under the warranty.

In your position I would send a message to those not so helpful dealers, about what was found out and done by a dealer which was more willing to serve a customer. A dealer should never let a customer to think he/she is considered to be stupid and not having any good knowledge of technology in cars. I have received that kind of impression from my local dealer, so it's not printed to a stone that I'd bring any more money for them.

Two  :goodjob: :goodjob2: from me.

First  :goodjob2: to @Teepee for his/her courtesy in letting us know what the outcome was. Very pleased for you. :)

Second  :goodjob2: to  Johnsons Hyundai in Coventry who gave the sort of customer service that a Hyundai owner should get.

It amazes me how some dealerships drop the plot in regard to good public relations and service. They will be the first to blame weather or the economy when their sales drop off.
