Hey all,

The car won't start!
Some of you might remember I posted last year about my i30 not starting, well I always managed to luck my way out by trying different combinations of starting procedures to get it going. Today though, she won't budge!

Battery seems fine, the car is reading the smart key, but I wanted to ask. When you turn the car to on, is the orange immobilizer light meant to be on or off? The light is staying on when trying to start the car.

Ive tried force starting the car by holding the start button for 10 sections but nothing happens. The media screen simply turns off. The car isn't trying to start either, it doesn't try to turn over or anything, just nothing.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hi mate, Sorry to hear that. I just had to go down and check! 

The immobilizer light seems to stay on until it starts.

All I can suggest is check your battery terminals haven't worked loose. 

Oh, and before Lester asks .. Have you got fuel?

Nrma is here now, not a battery issue,Tank is also full.

Update: nrma had to bypass the starter to get the car running. Drove straight to Hyundai to have them check it out. Got out of car at the dealer, turned it off and back on. Started first go... Very strange. Still at the dealer while they read the error codes.

What did your Nrma do to bypass the starter?

Hopefully something's found while you're still within warranty...

Sorry for the late reply, but I thought better late then never 

So in the end Hyundai couldn't find anything wrong with the car, saying no error codes were showing up. The problem has come up again a few times after this post but after some playing around I think I've identified part of the problem. I found that when the car decides to play up with this issue, I can get around it by starting the car in neutral! (I'm in an automatic). This makes me believe it may be a faulty brake switch?

Anywhoo, I'll mention my findings at my next service and go from there.

They said the issue has been noted in my service history so even if they can't fix it within the warranty period, it will be dealt as a warranty issue.
