Title: i30 PD SR Mod suggestions
Post by: EthanWard on July 08, 2018, 11:04:09
Hi all, after purchasing the SR i couldn't help myself but to start looking at modding it already, a few mods in mind just struggling to find anywhere that sells the parts that i'm looking for.
Anyway i'm looking at starting small so i'm looking for a performance inter cooler and a performance cold air intake. however also open to any suggestions that you guys might have on anything else to start with. Thanks!

Another member has fitted one of the Torcon pipes which has a neat fitment, the kit listed here  :link: TORCON One Bend Aluminum Intake + Heat Cover for Hyundai Elantra Sport 2017+ | eBay (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TORCON-One-Bend-Aluminum-Intake-Heat-Cover-for-Hyundai-Elantra-Sport-2017/172906423391?hash=item284206a45f:g:izAAAOSwgkxZ1Wwj) I feel is better being it come's complete with heatshield, KDMHOLIC are grossly overpriced though imo...still cheaper than the K&N option though :faint:

I haven't seen any listings for aftermarket intercooler kits at this stage for the 2018 i30 but a quick visit to a local speed shop will provide an easy answer to whether something can be matched for you.

Another interesting mod would be for the turbo downpipe upgrade  :link: TORCON Power Lab Exhaust Turbo Outlet Pipe for Hyundai Elantra Sport (Avante AD) 2017+ (http://kdmholic.com/product/torcon-power-lab-exhaust-turbo-outlet-pipe-downpipe-for-hyundai-elantr/1950/?cate_no=829&display_group=1) there's a video in there as well, sounds good though does mention coupling with an ECU tune.

There is a company in the USA called Tork Motorsports.  They do an upgraded intercooler. As the factory one is quite restrictive due to the bends into it
:link: 2017 Hyundai Elantra Sport FMIC | DamnFastDD.com (http://damnfastdd.com/Products/Show/2017+Hyundai+Elantra+Sport+FMIC)     But as you can see. It is not cheep when you will also include shipping.
If you go through there parts that they do for these cars. They do quite a bit.   But again. It all comes down to pricing.

Shark Racing also in the USA have a good range as well.  But mainly cosmetic  :link: Hyundai i30 - i30 2018+ - Page 1 - Shark Racing (http://sharkracing.com/i30-2018/?sort=pricedesc)

Other than that. There is not a lot out there for these cars. Specially if you want something local.
You could measure up the factory intercooler & match it up to something aftermarket. Then get the piping mounted up by a shop that specialises in that.
I feel that would work out cheaper than going with the Tork Motorsports delivered from the US

But it all depends on how far you would like to go with it..  With trying to get max power from the 1.6lt. You might of been better with the i30N

Just thought I would bump up an old thread for anyone thinking of doing a FMIC for their car. The best one on the market at the moment, in my opinion, is the one by SXTH Element Engineering in the US, but expect to pay around AU$2k landed for one, once you factor in shipping and the import duty and GST... That's what I paid.

It pulls harder higher in the rev range now (towards redline), and it dropped my 1/4 Mile ET from average 14.6 with a best of 14.3 to a consistent 14.4 with a best of 14.2 (I have a few other mods to get that ET, btw)

What’s the difference of that to the Shark Racing one, it’s for the Veloster though I’d expect fitup to be identical at a fraction of the cost  :link: 2012-2017 Veloster Performance Intercooler Kit - Shark Racing (http://sharkracing.com/2012-2017-veloster-performance-intercooler-kit/)

One for the 2017+ Elantra sport which is larger again so would be much more efficient   :link: 2017+ Elantra Sport Performance Intercooler Kit - Shark Racing (http://sharkracing.com/2017-elantra-sport-performance-intercooler-kit/)
