Title: i30 2009 2.0 CRDI general electronics issue
Post by: Hunor on January 30, 2019, 19:57:53
Hello everyone,

I bought my car second hand about half a year ago and the light in the roof, in the back wasn't working since I got it. I decided to fix this and ordered some replacement lights (  :link: 36MM Feston LED Ampoule, HSUN 6411 6413 6418 6461 6486X DE3423 DE3425 Erreur Canbus gratuite avec puce SMD5050 pour éclairage intérieur de voiture, (https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B07JDGQ39W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) ).

When they arrived I realized that the model I got was too long and didn't fit, however I only realized this after trying to fit them in, I said to myself, ah well, I'll get the right size and fix it then but when I was leaving the car I noticed that I couldn't lock it any more from the fob. I checked a few other things and it turns out that a number of electronics don't work anymore:
 - electric rear view mirrors
 - cabin lighting
 - the TPMS sensor malfunction light is on
 - the car's boot (trunk) is always detected as being open
 - parking sensor doesn't work
 - and central locking from the key fob.

I checked all the fuses one by one and none of them are blown but it's obviously an electronics issue. Does anyone have any idea what could have happened? It was working fine before I tried to change the light and I changed it with the engine off and key not in contact.

Regards,

Hunor

Hi there!  :hatoff:

Sounds like a job for "BCM Man" :D

The Body Control Module (BCM) has a hang on most of those things you listed so if I were you I'd disconnect the battery +ve terminal for around half an hour, which should reset the BCM.

Hopefully  :Good_luck: :fingers:

Normal procedure is to go back to the start. remove what you have added.

Thanks Shambles, I will try that. Any idea how it might have happened though? I mean, even if I accidentally connected the two poles of the light fixture, aren't the fuses there to melt down in such cases and prevent damage to other components?

The BCM keeps records of lots of things electronic and has been known to become corrupted, so it's an easy test for you.

so, that didn't work. I unhooked the battery, left it over-night (started raining shortly after I disconnected it) and in the morning when I reconnected the battery things were still not working. ESP is now also disabled and can't be re-enabled. I'm guessing it's probably time to take it to the garage ...

ESP will be off when battery is connected. Will correct itself after you drive through a few turns.

Update: it was a fuse in the end.

First time I checked I could only check them visually but I got a multi-meter yesterday and went over them again, I found one that was blown. Strangely enough it's labeled "audio" on the diagram which at least to my mind means that it's not supposed to control all the other things that didn't work, but here we are.

The fuse is the bottom one from the plastic thing in the picture:

I know I'm going off topic here a bit, but since I removed the battery to try to reset the BCM, I can't really tighten the battery clamps back correctly and it does look like the previous owner used copper wires to make sure it was a better fit, which are now eroded. I was thinking to replace the clamps entirely. Are there any clamps you guys would recommend specifically?  (I live in France at the moment).

Here is a picture of how the current ones look:

Thanks for the update. Don't you hate it when you've got a fuse in the end...  :snigger: (sorry I've got a twisted sense of humour)

Can't help with the battery clamp recommendation. I'm too far away. :undecided:

Thanks for the advice, glad its solved. :goodjob2:
The original clamps are good.
My guess is you have a battery with a different shaped or small pole.
The clamp cuts into the lead and eventually does not make good contact.
