Hello,
We have an ix20 2010 Plate
The front window washer works ok
The rear window washer doesn’t squirt water.
Looking around on this forum I think I need to replace the washer pump.
Is that right?
Is there anything else I should check?
I have a multimeter so I can check there is power when the rear washer is turned on, once I get to the pump (I assume that’s fairly obvious to do). I take it that’s worth checking before I take the old pump out?

Sorry, this is probably basic stuff, but I’m venturing into another part of the car I know little about (again) and it’s the middle of winter and I’d rather not be lying around underneath the thing more than necessary.

A slight aside, does anyone know if this is a MOT fail in the UK?
Thanks, Jon

Think I found the answer to the MOT question

https://www.mot-testing.service.gov.uk/documents/manuals/class3457/Section-3-Visibility.html#section_3.3

I’m reading that as... they check the front and side windows but not the back. Rear view mirrors have to function correctly but I’m not sure that it is mentioning the rear window itself.

So the short answer is it’s not an issue, I think.

Having read it several times I am inclined to the same view as you...  but, just ask an MOT guy at a garage  :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob:

Re rear
On my car it wouldn't squirt.
Took to garage and found that the tube was blocked with  additive that had solidified.
A blast of air cleared it.

Worth checking.

To check tube to see if there is a joiner and separate.
May be by tank and or on rear hatch door.

Blow air through to see if blocked.

If it's like the i30 and previous Elantra which i'm sure it would be then the one pump/reservoir feeds front and rear, so Lester is on the money. Has to be a blockage or leakage/disconnection of the rear tubing. If the front is working then obviously the pump is ok.

Rear wiper and wash-wipe to the rear have never featured in the UK MOT, but I've seen mention somewhere that it may change to "if it's fitted it, must work correctly".

I had a problem with the washers being weak at the front but absolutely nothing coming out at the rear washer.
What I did was drain the tank by removing the pump, clean the filter at the pump which was clogged with grime. The previous owner must not have used a good screenwash or never used them so the gunk had settled at the bottom of the tank. I also blew down the washer lines and flushed the tank to remove any settled gunk. Worked great ever since.

Thanks everyone.
I’ll have a check of the lines / filter, as that’s a free thing.

Hi,
Sorry forgot to come back to this.
I got it going in the end. Filled the reservoir right up and held the washer down for ages.
Must have been something clogged in the end cos it suddenly started squirting again.
