Hi. I have an i40 vf premium wagon. Does anyone know if you can swap out the pre sat nav head unit and ac controls for the later sat nav head unit.

Hi. I have an i40 vf premium wagon. Does anyone know if you can swap out the pre sat nav head unit and ac controls for the later sat nav head unit.

I think there would be a fair bit of work and expense involved

Headunit, Climate control unit, new fascia then cabling / GPS antenna etc.

I'm somewhat curious myself but unless a gifted opportunity to get everything cheaply and they are rare to find for sale. Think I've seen a head unit recently go for $300 private.

Ideally find a donor and swapover all the different parts and harnesses although it's likely integrated into the main loom. If you got the headunit wit the connectors and partial loom I guess you could make your own leads.

I wish I had saved the image now of the rear for a comparison

Probably won't find much info here being i30 Forum pre-dominantly

Thanks TW. thought that might be the case. It’s the only thing that annoys me about my i40.  It’s a great car and can’t fault it. Maybe an after market unit maybe the go. I recently upgraded my i30 gd head unit to the gd3 which was a simple swap. Was hoping it would be that easy on the i40. Any people installed an after market unit in their i40 and could provide any recommendations. Cheers

standard radios and antennas

STD antenna base is 96200-3Z000

GPS 96210-3Z500

Shark fins I think in the latest models.

here's an Elantra example which has a clear shot of the separate GPS and conventional radio antenna connections

This looks like the GPS combo, multi-pin connector.

I think you would need a complete Premium tourer with the update and you'd have to grab the entire kit, antenna, cables, trims etc etc, and interface the rear camera, check all the pinouts and so on. :sweating:

Yep looks like a big job. Not worth the hassle. Guess I was a bit excited after upgrading my i30 head unit easily. Not the end of the world but it does look a lot nicer and more functional than the early basic unit. Appreciate your help
