Title: Do all Hyundai diesel cars have Blue Drive?

Just noticed the car I’m looking to buy doesn’t say it has Blue Drive like my 2014 model, will this affect the fuel economy or how the car runs. Thanks guys, I’ve not got a great deal of car knowledge so hopefully someone can help.
Car is a new generation i30 1.6 crdi

Blue drive is Hyundai speak for stop go engines. Ie when you stop the vehicle at the lights the engine will stop and restart when you go to take off this is the only change to how the car runs.

Will it effect the fuel economy, it really depends if your going to spend a lot of time in heavy traffic I guess.

There are plenty out there who would love to be able to turn this technology off.

That feature is not offered in any Australian delivered i30s which are built in Korea rather than Czech Republic. Most Aussie diesel owners are more than happy with their fuel economy.

There are a lot of perameters to be met before the stop start works properly. Hyundai have not been particularly good at engineering that feature in the past.

My experience with blue drive on the two i30's I owned is that it made very little difference to economy - I am convinced it is not worth the aggravation you get from it being so temperamental.  It is more a sales gimmick that a positive benefit.

I am one of those who would have like to have had it turned off

My son has a 2 year old Golf GT and the stop-start on that works faultlessly.

Wise words from Dazz in the earlier post - Hyundai need to develop it further - or abandon it.

My PD has a button next to the gear stick to disable the stop go feature. I try to remember to push it every time I start the car.

Yeah, same on my ´16 GD....Piece of...Something utterly bad :evil:

Im playing around with idea of letting a small IC called 555 make a ½ second pulse every time ignition comes on. This pulse will then trigger a relay that has same resistance build into it as whats in-cuircuit of the start/stop/-button. Putting this cuircuit in parallel with the start/stop switch will then fool the car to believe i have pushed the button and invert the functionality if it, so its still an option, but default state will be off instead of on  :goodjob:

Here's an easy circuit to illustrate the principle based on a positive edge trigger:

You can visualise the positive edge as it travels from left to right.

Before the positive edge arrives, the top input to the AND gate is low voltage while the inverter in the bottom input has created a high voltage at the charged capacitor.

These two unequal inputs create a low output from the AND gate.

The arrival of the high voltage (ignition on) makes its way along the high input to the AND gate unaltered while the low input has its positive inverted, which immediately presents low voltage which begins to drain the charge fron the capacitor. Before the capacitor is drained too much, both inputs to the AND gate will be high enough to create your desired pulse.

The pulse will last as long as it takes for the low voltage from the inverter to drain the capacitor's charge, determined by the values of the resistor and capacitor (time constant).

With both inputs unequal again, the AND gate will return to low voltage output.

Spot on, TY  :goodjob: Then all is needed is a driver for the relay, as i wouldnt think the output can deliver enough to drive it direct.

I believe a relay is needed as the switch works in parallel with others & switch determined by current drawn on that bus (If same as on the steeringwheel, which would make good sense for faultdetection & limiting wires), so relay & resistor with same value as ISG-switch got in parallel on the bus & off we go  :goodjob2: :goodjob:

Look up open collector TTL chips. They'll drive up to 30V with enough current to take on your relay (if needed at all). I used them to activate 12V central locking from a 5V remote receiver model without the need for relays in my case. :victory:

Cheers. As the circuit needs to be potential-free, (i need a relay to insert the same ohm-value as the ISG-switch normally would put on the "bus"), i cant see how i could do that without a relay. But SSR could be an easy option & they are almost free theses days from china  :goodjob:

A little update as i went a little beserk on this issue....Still only on my desktop, but now its a fully working prototype  :goodjob:

I play a bit around with arduino´s...Have also a (fully functional) prototype of a smokeoven for things like salmons, mackerel & so. With PID regulation of temperature, LCD-display, buzzer & offcourse a IR-remote for it  :mrgreen: (Made it 1½ year ago, so a bit rusty these days)

But i found a cheeper & lot smaller circuit thats Arduino coding compatible, the Attiny85, put a relay on it, a buzzer & a switch to simulate the ISG-button.

I have made it like this:

Normal operation: Approx 6 secs after ignition is applied, the relay gets activated for 0,5 Sec.

Then i made a "servicemode", so when the car goes to the dealer, they wont notice.

You enter this by pressing the ISG-button for 2 secs. Then the small buzzer sounds twice (yep, that was what it was for  :lol: ) What happens now is i toggle between a "0" and "1" on adress 1 (what else) in the PIC´s buildt in EEPROM. EEPROM is memory that doesnt get deleted when power is removed like RAM. This EEPROM-state gets checked at every startup and only if its 1, the relay gets it 0,5 sec to mimic the start/stop.

Pressing the ISG-button again & EEPROM value toggles again, servicemode disabeled & next time ignition gets turned on, the relay will click its 0,5 Secs to turn ISG off.

I know others have made something like it, but i built my own code from scratch.

If anyone see any interst in it & wants to build their own (if you can understand the code, you should know the circuit diagram), ill happy throw the code here, as its only "a few" lines  :idea :snigger:
